This hike was more difficult than the reviews let on! I am in moderate shape and it was a challenge for those more fit than me. Definitely make sure you bring a carb snack, a sugar snack, lots of water, sunscreen, and a change of clothes -- if it rains, you'll desperately want to get out of your muddy pants and shoes before the cold night hits. Hire a porter even if you think you don't need one. The guides are awesome and patient. Great experience, but I'll be sore for a few days!
It was a beautiful hike, although well the mountain has a lot of mud. The views are great especially the summit crater lake. It’s the biggest in the mountain ranges. And it’s not as difficult as other mountains in the area.
I booked the Bisoke hike with Rwagasabo Safari last minute and Serge was so accommodating! He came to where I was staying to take card payment, and arranged a driver to take me to and from Bisoke even though I was staying in a hard to find location. The hike itself was the most challenging physical activity I've done but absolutely worth it. It took us ~4 hours to go up and ~4 hours to go down. It can be completed more quickly but we had to be careful as it had been raining and was very slippery. It is very steep, so it's definitely a whole body workout, a mental workout too! There were points where I wanted to turn back but the porters and guides were supportive and helped us get to the top. At the top (3711m above sea level) you have such a beautiful view over Rwanda and the crater lake that sits half in Rwanda, half in the DRC. You get such a huge sense of accomplishment too. The hike is not for the faint hearted, but you will not regret doing it. The meal included on return was very much needed!
The day began as planned ,travelled all the way to Musanze for about 4 hours...we had some nice place to spend our nights so we had to check in first before we went for fire place and dinner....woke up the next morning for the hike....had fun for real....it was kinda tough but a quarter of us made it .... Having used Rwagasabo safaris for the first time i would commend this guys to anyone .Very organised individuals ,punctual, polite and also very affordable. .....
It was one the best touristic experience i have ever had. Serge was very social to the group and privided very good services. I will go with him to Akagera national park next summer
