Die Westerplatte ist eine Halbinsel an der Mündung der Toten Weichsel in die Danziger Bucht und der Ort, an dem der Zweite Weltkrieg begann. Weltweit bekannt als Ort, an dem am 1. September 1939 um 4:45 Uhr der Zweite Weltkrieg begann. Für Polen ist es jedoch vor allem ein Ort des heroischen Kampfes der Besatzung des Militärischen Transitdepots mit 18-mal mehr und viel besser ausgerüsteten deutschen Streitkräften. Heute ist es als Gedenkstätte mit Ruinen von Blockhäusern und Kasernen sowie als gigantisches Denkmal zum Gedenken an 128 heldenhafte polnische Soldaten unter dem Kommando von Major Henryk Sucharski bekannt. Er hielt sich eine ganze Woche lang gegen 3500 angreifende deutsche Soldaten auf. Die Gedenkstätte ist übersät mit unzähligen Informationstafeln, alle in englischer Sprache. Unser englischsprachiger Fahrer holt Sie von einem Hotel / Apartment oder irgendwo in Danzig oder Sopot ab und bringt Sie in einem Luxusauto zu einer 2-stündigen Tour durch diesen erstaunlichen Ort. I spoke with a representative to book the tour, as I couldn’t book myself online. I needed both a driver and a guide. The representative assured me a guide would be included. Our driver clad in his business suit, picked us up in one of the his company’s black Mercedes. He dressed well but was devoid of communication skills. . He did not engage in any conversation with me or my mother. (Mom was born and educated in Poland. We both speak Polish). Driver dropped us off at Westerplatte. We waited 15 minutes for him. We thought he was parking the car and he would then meet us. After 15 minutes i called to complain to the local contact. I explained that the representative I spoke to assured me there would be a guide. No guide. The contact explained it’s written on the website that they only provide transportation. Buyer beware. Westerplatte itself I found out more about after visiting Bazylika sw. Brygidy. The church has some information about Westerplatte on board displays. You are able to learn how/why things occur. The contact for the tour ended up calling me as we are past our two hours. The driver has complained. Mind you we lost 15 minutes waiting for the driver and another 15 minutes on the phone with local contact. I had told the local contact that we were on our way but mom doesn’t ambulate quickly since she’s 82. The local contact called back a few more times to learn of our progress meeting the driver. All the while, the local contact keeps repeating how annoyed the driver feels. Ok. I’m annoyed with the entire “tour.” I gave no tip for the driver. He didn’t deserve one and Viator doesn’t deserve my business.
Driver was on time to pick me up from my hotel. Transport was very clean and tidy. Dropped me off at the car park and waited there while I explored the area.

Private trip by luxury car and a very courteous and professional driver says it best. Driver arrived on time at designated location, got me settled in for a very comfortable ride which took about 20 minutes. He dropped me off at entrance to Westerplatte and told me where to go and what to expect and then waited in the parking lot while I explored Westerpatte and its surroundings. Drive back was equally as comfortable and the driver was again very courteous and professional without being stiff and snooty.
