Wanderweg Black Mysteries | Insel Terceira

This was such an amazing experience. The history and landscapes of this island are truly entrancing. Our guide James did not disappoint. He was so knowledgeable, motivated and got our entire group through this semi challenging hike with ease. Fast to respond to any minor injuries (scrapes...there was blood) and so patient. Thank you James. My children will never forget this one.

It was a very nice tour. You hike thru enchanting moss-covered forests, quiet little lakes, lava rocks, Japanese cidars. The guide really had lots of information about the trail, the endemic vegetation, etc.

This tour was absolutely fantastic! Our guide, Amelia, was incredibly kind and attentive throughout the entire trek. She shared helpful tips and made sure everyone felt comfortable. The route itself was stunning, with breathtaking views and just the right level of challenge. If you're looking for a memorable outdoor adventure with a guide who truly cares, this is the one. The Mistérios Negros hike was our favorite part of the trip to Terceira! The natural scenery throughout the trail was stunning and unique, and having to occasionally use both hands and feet to get past obstacles made the experience even more fun. Our guide, Amélia, was very patient, she always gave us a heads-up when there were slippery or unstable spots, and her explanations about the island were both engaging and informative. She brought great energy to the whole journey. We took part in three tours with Azores Nature Tours during our stay in Terceira, and every single one of them was perfect! :)

The hiking trail is very nice, but mega strenuous (or rather annoying), as more than half walk on a very narrow path over tree roots and lava stones, where you have to constantly look where you are stepping and sometimes you have to go up and down over large stones. Overall very beautiful nature and we took 2 hours from the parking lot at Lagoa Negra as a circular hike (just over 5 km).

Our afternoon hiking with James was a lot of fun! My sister and I were part of a small group, with five people total plus the guide. The trail was very scenic. It was challenging in parts, but not too hard. There were lots of roots to step over and big steps up or down at some points. One woman used a walking stick and the rest of us held onto trees at times to balance. The guide James gave lots of great information about the area and why the trail is unique. He kept the mood friendly in our group and we enjoyed meeting fellow travellers. We would highly recommend this trail to people who like to be active and enjoy nature.

Great experience, James took us around a beautiful interesting route. He was informative and personable. The trail had a great variety of views from lava fields to meadows, ponds and forest. Thoroughly enjoyed. Need descent hiking shoes or trail runners and a bottle of water. Took us 2 1/2 hours.

The Guide Amélia was tireless and extremely attentive with the group, explaining each step of the route and some secrets of the island of Terceira. An experience to repeat!

This was our second tour with Amelia. The first one was the around the island familiarization tour when we first arrived. Amelia is an amazing source of island information. We thoroughly enjoyed this hike through the interior of Terceira and highly recommend this company and this guide!!
