They try to treat the animals right. But thats not working out! To much stress, chasing them, kicking them, feeding them, bad water quality. Natural habitat destroyed! These beautiful giants will be gone in 10 years because of overtourism. Nobody cares about limiting the numbers of visitors each day!
We are sorry for your experience. We will inform the local government of your concerns.
I done the 6am swim with the whale sharks, great experience and worth doing.I went from Oslob, you're pretty much always going to have them around
Hi Dunback. We are pleased to know of your enjoyment. Truly a one of a kind activity. We hope to have you again. Thank you.
Was quite excited about this, but quite disappointed. Long day had to leave at 3am and arrived at 5am. Feeding starts at 5.30am. Crazy unorganized event with too many people. Very tourist trap, but a good source of income for many Filipinos
Our driver was on time (we weren't) and very professional. Had a great chat all the way to oslob, learnt quite a lot of things Google doesn't tell you. Whale shark watching was such an experience. We got in the water and watched them real close. Almost could touch them! But please don't. They're coast guards in scuba underwater watching you. Aguinid Falls was another amazing experience. We brought our 3yo with us, but surprisingly, the guide took fantastic care of her. Took a jump from level 4, which was real fun. Didn't yell like Tarzan. Was amazed we could actually climb up those rock walls. Really want to do this trip again. Thanks for the trip!
Hi Adrian. We are happy (with a smile) to read your review. We hope you could visit Cebu again and explore more. Thank you.
Basically no cash is required, Whale shark watching, there is no meal until lunch after the waterfall tour, so it is recommended to have breakfast while waiting for the first whale shark. We were worried, but we enjoyed it until the end, as the tour would go on without knowing the time schedule. Here are some things I thought I needed to prepare for this tour. Toilet paper, underwater camera, shoes to put in the water, extra towels, last change of clothes etc. The above can be procured and rented on site, but it is better to prepare it if you have time as it will cost less if you have it in advance. Whale shark watching will move from one location to another, so you may not want to take your luggage with you. For your information
I was not sure about going because it is a bit polemic. However I have to say that the government has a lot of rules and you can get a fine if you touch them. They are free and just go to the place from 6 to 11 am to be fed, then they go wherever they want. When I was swimming I did not feel anything bad, they are very close to us as they are coming near the boats, but people try to be as far possible and don't touch them. I just have to say that it was beautiful.
Glad I booked through site. Was able to hire waterproof go-pro for 550 pesos. The whale shark site was very busy but the guide took us straight through the crowd to check in and then watched us until we were on the boat. The whale sharks actually bumped into me and it was good to see no one on my boat was attempting to touch or grab them. The bbq lunch was a table set up just for us under the coconut trees. At Aguinid Falls the 2 guides treated my daughter like their own child watching her every step, The guides too some amazing photos on our phone. Make sure to tip them as they are not paid. The transport was a late model van with excellent air conditioning. Am hoping to do this again next visit.
Dear Grant A, Thank you for taking time to write and we are happy to read such a wonderful review. The team carefully reads all reviews and makes the "humps" smooth again. We look forward to having you back. There is more to do and explore in Cebu. Thank you.
I would recommend this as a good day out, I had some reservations about distressing the whale sharks after reading reviews elsewhere but, although there were a lot of people in the water, there didn't appear to be any problem and the animals themselves are not afraid of getting close to you. We were picked up (early) from our hotel in Cebu City and driven (3 hours?) to a resort where we were then transported to the departure beach. It is chaos there involving numbers, lifejackets, snorkels and boats, but we managed ok eventually. The boat takes you about 20 metres from the beach and you get in the water. The whale sharks are amazing and it is not a scary experience, on the contrary its very enjoyable and was over too quickly. Back on the boat, and back to the resort for onward transportation to the falls (maybe 30 minutes away). You will be given a guide to take you to the falls. These guys are volunteers and a 'tip' is advisable - they do a good job and will keep you safe and take all the photos you want so definitely worth it. The falls themselves are lovely, on 5 levels, you can do some jumps and swim around, nice experience. Footwear is mandatory as there are sharp rocks. Snacks are also available to buy when you get back to the car and we were taken back to the resort for a shower and lunch which was great - they managed to cater very well for a vegan diet and there was honestly too much food. Then its a 3-hour journey back to Cebu. In all you spend much more time driving than actually doing anything but its totally worth it and I would absolutely do this again.
Dear VeganABZ, Thank you! We loved your review and your detailed experiences specially the vegan meal. The latter is something we carefully selected to be able to cater to clients with special requirements. We look forward to having you again. Thank you.
The whale shark watching is a MUST for everyone (all ages)! But the Aguinid Falls could be a disaster for the elderly people and youngsters! Once you arrive at the main gate/parking lot, they put you on these motorcycles. The reason is that there is a stretch of approx 0.75 to 1Km road to the entrance of this falls. This stretch contains a few sharp turns and up and down a couple of steep hills. These motorcycle couriers do not waste their time transporting you from point A to point B. There are absolutely no safety equipment at all, they buzz back and forth between the park lot and the entrance way to make as much money as they can! So picture yourself on a motorcycle race through a rough T terrain course! The ride is only 5 minutes, but it was the scary ride of my wife's lifetime! Don't worry, just tell your guide you wish to walk from the parking lot to the entrance. We walked back to the parking lot, it was actually fun, we get to see more of the mountain scenery. As fro the falls, the water is very cold, so if you were wearing a wet suit while swimming with the whale sharks, keep the wet suit on, you will enjoy the swim at the falls much more! The water colour is milky, that's due to the limestone around the entire area. Enjoy!
despite mass tourism a great experience. Whale sharks are incredible. Up to 30 full boats on the water, as between the boats feeding the whale sharks.
