Birding around Kigali ist eine Einführung in die Vogelwelt Ostafrikas, da diese Orte eine Mischung aus Lebensräumen wie Grasland, Feuchtgebieten und Seen (Teiche) sind. Vogelbeobachtung an einem (oder allen) der genannten Orte ist eine Einführung in Vögel Ruandas und Sie haben auch Gelegenheit, seltene Vögel wie Weißhals-Olivenrücken, Papyrus Gonolek und Papyrus Kanarienvogel zu sehen.

Wir haben eine 3-stündige Vogelbeobachtung im Nyandungu Urban Wetland Eco-Tourism Park, hauptsächlich um Vögel zu sehen. Nyandungu ist ein neu restauriertes Feuchtgebiet in Kigali City; es liegt 1,5 km vom internationalen Flughafen Kigali und nur 25 Autominuten vom Stadtzentrum entfernt. Über 100 Vögel wurden in diesem Gebiet unter anderem Weißhals-Olivenrücken, Gelbbrust-Apalis, Doppelzahn-Barbeet usw. registriert.
Umusambi ist ein Name aus Kinyarwanda, der Gra-Crown Crane bedeutet. Das Dorf ist ein neu geschaffenes Refugium, um die Bevölkerung von Gra-Crown Crane vor dem illegalen Haustierhandel zu retten. Zum Schutz des Gebiets kommen mehr Vögel zur Nahrungs- und Fortpflanzungssuche an den Ort. Viele Eisvogelarten wie Rattenfisch, Malachit und Afrikanischer Zwergfisch nutzen angelegte Wasserteiche als Nahrungsquelle. Wir verbringen 2 bis 3 Stunden am Morgen, um das Heiligtum zu erkunden, bevor wir unsere Mittagspause haben.
Feuchtgebiete in Bugesera, insbesondere Gashora-Feuchtgebiete, beherbergen Papyrus- und Wasservogelarten. Diese Orte sind die Heimat von Papyrus Gonolek, Papyrus Canary, Carruther's Cisiticola und Herden von Glossy Ibis. Sie können einen Vormittag oder Nachmittag an diesem Ort haben, um die Feuchtgebiete der ostafrikanischen Region zu sehen.

We had the chance to go on a birding tour in Kigali, and to say it was wonderful is an understatement. Our guide, Joseph, was amazing, so knowledgeable but most of all, incredibly passionate. His love for birds and conservation is truly contagious. We enjoyed spending the day with him and our driver, Alex, so so much. We only wished we had more time to absorb more knowledge. If you like birds, book this tour, you will not regret it. If you don’t like birds, you should also book this tour, I’m sure you’ll like them by the end. I can’t stress enough how amazing Joseph was. We are so happy we found this tour, and honestly can’t wait to come back and go birding with him again. We were able to identify over 60 different species of birds. Thank you so so much, we truly loved it.

Claudien proved to be a punctuel and seriously expert birder, equipped with quality binocs and scope and call recordings and deep familiarity with the species of the area. He is flexible and easy company. The urban wetland is perfect for birding: paved pathway cutting through marshes, ponds, and woodlands, litter'free, uncrowded, and secure.

This was an unplanned trip for me whilst at a conference in Kigali. I had an extra day free before heading back home. Claudien made himself available and organized a great day in the wetlands. I cannot recommend Birding and Educational Tours enough! The experience far exceeded my expectations. Claudien’s expertise in identification of local species, and knowledge of where to find them, was invaluable. We managed to see 69 different species including some rare sightings. Booking was easy, the tour started on time, lunch was lovely, and the birding locations were excellent. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe throughout. It was also wonderful to have the opportunity to support a local business. Claudien went above and beyond to ensure I was able to get the most from the experience.

I had a great time with Claudien, a knowledgeable and academically-trained birdwatcher. I saw about 40 species of birds in a day in large part due to his expertise. I would happily choose other tours with this team.
