In Berat angekommen, beginnt Ihre Reise an der legendären Burg Berat, einer Festung aus dem 4. Jahrhundert v. Chr. Auf einem Hügel mit herrlichem Blick auf das gesamte Tal gelegen, ist die Burg nicht nur ein Denkmal — sie ist eine der wenigen noch bewohnten Festungen der Welt. Während Sie die Steinwege erkunden, werden Sie entdecken, wie Berat dreimal von Osmanen, Römern und Bulgaren eingenommen wurde, bevor es im 14. Jahrhundert zu einem mächtigen Fürstentum unter der Adelsfamilie Muzaka wurde. Ihr Spaziergang geht weiter zum Onufri Iconography Museum, das sich in der wunderschön renovierten Kathedrale der Himmelfahrt der Heiligen Maria aus dem 18. Jahrhundert befindet. Nach dem Schloss führt Sie die Tour ins Herz der Stadt – die traditionellen Viertel Mangalem und Gorica. Verknüpft durch die elegante Gorica-Brücke über den Osum-Fluss, sind diese Viertel berühmt für ihre weißen osmanischen Häuser, perfekt auf dem Hügel gestapelt, was Berat seinen Spitznamen gibt: Die Stadt der tausend Fenster.

Abfahrt nach Berat um 9:00 Uhr und Sie werden für ca. 2,5 - 3 Stunden in diese wunderschöne Stadt gebracht. Dies ist eine der ältesten und stolzesten albanischen Architekturen. Die drei Hauptviertel der Altstadt sind Mangalemi, Gorica und Kala, in denen sich die Burg selbst befindet.

Berat Castle is one of the most important historical and cultural monuments in Albania. Built on a high hill, it offers a stunning view of the city and the Osumi River. The castle has a history that dates back to antiquity, but was strengthened and took its present form during the Byzantine and Ottoman periods. Inside it are old churches, characteristic houses and cobblestone alleys, which still preserve the spirit of past centuries. It is a living testament to Albanian history and heritage

We took a private one-day tour to Berat from Saranda with Mariglen. He was very punctual and we left promptly at 8am. Mariglen was thoughtful, kind and considerate. He looked after us all day and accommodated all our needs. The day was long but it really worth the trip as Berat is stunning, and it gives you a break from the crowds and heat of Saranda. The price included breakfast in the beautiful Tepelene and audioguides in the Iconography Museum in Berat. Really recomended tour agency and a great guide experience with Mariglen!

The main attraction of Berat, the castle is definitely worth the walk up for amazing views over the area. Make sure to walk around the perimeter so you can see all the viewpoints including the byzantine church.
