Im Aladağ-Gebirge, nur 8 km von Ephesus entfernt, ist das Haus der Jungfrau Maria eine bedeutende Pilgerstätte. Der Überlieferung nach kam Maria mit dem heiligen Johannes im Jahr 37 n. Chr. nach Ephesus und lebte dort bis zu ihrem Tod im Jahr 48 n. Chr. Der Ort wurde 1892 vom Erzbischof von Kusadasi nach der Entdeckung des Hauses als Wallfahrtsort anerkannt. Am 26. Juli 1967 besuchte und betete Papst Paul VI. an diesem heiligen Ort und festigte seine Bedeutung für Besucher aus aller Welt.
Auf dem Ayasuluk-Hügel in Selçuk gelegen, wurde die Basilika des heiligen Johannes im 6. Jahrhundert von Kaiser Justinian über der geglaubten Begräbnisstätte des heiligen Johannes des Apostels erbaut. Einst ein prächtiger Kuppelbau, der mit der Hagia Sophia konkurrierte, war die Basilika in der byzantinischen Ära ein wichtiges Pilgerziel. Heute können Besucher die Überreste – darunter elegante Bögen, Säulenfragmente und das symbolische Grab des Heiligen Johannes – erkunden, die alle vor Panoramablick auf Selçuk und die umliegende Landschaft stehen. Die Stätte bietet einen eindrucksvollen Einblick in die frühchristliche Geschichte und das geistliche Erbe der Region.

this was an amazing experience Rengin was great and very informative. She kept in tune with how sites were with lines etc and modified course a bit so we essentially avoided crowds and had plenty time. Lunch was amazing with so much good food. The stop at carpet factory was very informative but they were very high pressure to try and make a sale. over all great tour through a great company. we would use them again to take tour.

Our Tour of the Mother House of Mary and St. John's Basilica with SeaDrop Travel was amazing. It was worth seeing two major religious and historical sites together.
