Der vor über tausend Jahren von den Wikingern erbaute Reginald's Tower ist Irlands ältestes Bürgergebäude. Der Turm steht an der Spitze des Wikingerdreiecks von Waterford und ist in vielen historischen Episoden von Strongbow bis Cromwell, Perkin Warbeck, König James II. und vielen anderen zu sehen.
Vom 6. bis zum 8. Jahrhundert n. Chr. existierte auf Little Island eine Klostersiedlung. Eine Schnitzerei eines Mönchskopfes aus dieser Zeit schmückt bis heute den Burgeingang. Die Wikinger kamen im 9. Jahrhundert an und auf der Insel Vryk, der „Däneninsel“, wurden zwei Befestigungen errichtet. Die Normannen drangen 1170 als nächstes ein und Maurice Fitzgerald, Stongbows Cousin, wurde während der Eroberung von den Ossermen auf Little Island gefangen gehalten. In der Folgezeit wurde er gebührend mit viel Land belohnt und so wurde die Insel acht Jahrhunderte lang zur Heimat der Earls of Kildare.

Great way for a family to travel up the suir and gain some insights into some of the local history. John our guide was very knowledgeable and Andy let my youngest pilot the boat.

It was such fun! I'm pretty good with the history in Ireland and the vikings etc but my family and I learned so much on this tour. The guide and the captain (Mary & Andy) were exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable. There was complimentary tea, coffee, water, juice and snacks offered. There was also binoculars available to use and viking hats for photo opportunities! I'll definitely be booking again next time I'm in Waterford. I'd highly recommend it to anyone!!

Andy and Mary were very welcoming hosts. Andy was the captain and Mary explained everything. In saying that, so did Andy. It was a beautiful day and we had a great time. My wife and I were the only 2 on the boat because a group of 4 cancelled. They brought us out anyway. I'd recommend it to everyone

A beautiful scenic boat ride. A little light on the Viking history side, however, rich with Irish culture and history. John the narrator was fun and friendly. He walked us over to O’Sullivans and introduced us to the owner. Live entertainment was really pleasant. ML
