Mario was a great tour guide. The experience is wonderful. Please note that the hike up to the top is steep and harder than you think. Bring water bottle. Small souvenir shops along the way. Slippery rocks, wear good traction shoes. They will get dirty. Beautiful views of the crater and surrounding towns.
Don’t really need to do a tour, our guide was sick day of so we had access to an audio guide but it wasn’t loading so I just walked up and down myself and enjoyed the views. Can do some googling to learn about the eruptions if you need. Told to meet driver back at meeting spot in an hour so was waiting for them at the right time and they arrived 30 minutes later, so could have taken some more time at the top. Just get an entry ticket and do it yourself with taxi drop off / pick up. (Maybe would have had a different experience if we did have the in person guide but I enjoyed just doing it without having to keep up with someone).
Mario was a great guide for our walking hike of Mount Vesuvius. He provided great information about the history and ecology of the mountain and surrounding area. Along the hike, he pointed out items and views that were really neat. Would absolutely recommend Mario for tours.
Mario was a terrific guide--knowledgeable, engaging, and funny. I really enjoyed hiking to the crater rim and seeing the puffs of steam. I had toured the Pompeii and Herculaneum ruins the day before, so seeing Vesuvius up close really brought this history to life.
Mario was a great guide, friendly and knowledgeable. The walk was challenging but doable and Mario built in stops for breaks. Most people should have no problem. The bus ride was easy as well. We had a great day!
our guide Mario is very nice, he told us a lot about mount Vesuvius and how was it formed. during the walk he stopped a few times to let us rest a bit. The walk isn’t too difficult but with the sun u definitely need a hat and a lot of water.
Mario was a fantastic guide. He gave us so much context and great information about Vesuvius and its different eruptions and characteristics. Would happily recommend doing this tour with Mario to anyone.
Our guide Mario was fantastic he really supported all on the trip and took it at our pace we never felt rushed. He was full of knowledge and would always have something new to tell us and show us. This included during times we what to stop going up rather than just waiting for us. The only confusion for us was that the ticket said 2pm start but we were not picked up til 2:30pm.
The excursion is ok if you’re young and fit but if you’re nearly 75, as my husband is, and everyone else is much younger, it’s hard to keep up with the group. The climb is steep and takes at least 25 minutes. It was difficult for my husband to keep up so we missed most of the descriptions when the guide took pauses. That is not how the activity was advertised. If we had known we would have gone on our own so we could do it at a more appropriate pace.
You travel for about 30 mins by mini bus ( seats for all ) and Mario our guide was great, giving lots of details on the way. The drive up Vesuvius is a bit heart racing but the driver was very experienced. It was sunny when we left but when we arrived at the car park it was cold and wet so take back up clothes and don’t just wear shorts!! The walk up is about thirty minutes and is very steep. Again our guide was amazing and gave lots of talks along the way and at the craters edge. We got a glimpse of the crater before the cloud descended … although no view it was still worth the hike for me … great trip but take warm clothes and a rain coat in case ( too windy for umbrellas)…. Shout out to Mario from Askos tours… he was great …
