Das Armenierviertel Armanitola bietet einen faszinierenden Einblick in die reiche, multikulturelle Geschichte Dhakas. Während des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts wanderten armenische Kaufleute nach Bengalen aus und gründeten eine blühende Gemeinde in dem heutigen Armanitola, einem belebten Viertel in Old Dhaka. Die Armenier brachten ihre einzigartige Kultur, ihren Geschäftssinn und ihre Traditionen mit und trugen wesentlich zur Wirtschaft Dhakas bei, insbesondere im Handel und in der Textilindustrie.
Das Ruplal House ist ein historisches Herrenhaus am Ufer des Flusses Buriganga in Dhaka, Bangladesch. Das Haus wurde Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts von zwei wohlhabenden Kaufleuten, Ruplal Das und seinem Bruder Raghunath Das, erbaut und präsentiert eine elegante Mischung aus europäischen und mogulischen Architekturstilen. Einst ein Symbol der Opulenz, verfügt das Herrenhaus über große Säle, komplizierte Holzschnitzereien und geräumige Innenhöfe. Trotz seines gegenwärtig baufälligen Zustands ist Ruplal House nach wie vor ein wichtiges kulturelles und historisches Wahrzeichen, das die Größe der kolonialen Vergangenheit Dhakas und das reiche Erbe der Kaufmannsschicht der Stadt widerspiegelt
Die Northbrook Hall in Dhaka ist ein historisches Gebäude, das während der britischen Kolonialzeit erbaut wurde. Benannt nach Lord Northbrook, dem Vizekönig von Indien, wurde es 1881 als Rathaus und Kulturzentrum eingeweiht. Die Architektur von Northbrook Hall spiegelt den Kolonialstil mit seinem eleganten Design und dekorativen Elementen wider. Im Laufe der Jahre diente es verschiedenen Zwecken, einschließlich der Veranstaltung von gesellschaftlichen Veranstaltungen, kulturellen Programmen und öffentlichen Treffen. Heute steht Northbrook Hall als Symbol für das reiche koloniale Erbe Dhakas und ist weiterhin ein wichtiger Ort für kulturelle und gemeinschaftliche Aktivitäten.

My husband and I loved discovering Old Dhaka’s hidden gems. The tour was well-paced for us as seniors, with time to rest and enjoy. The food tastings were delicious, and the stories brought the city’s history alive. A thoughtful, memorable experience we’ll always cherish.

I've been on two tours in Old Dhaka with Secrets Bangladesh (I brought my friends one time and husband the other), and would recommend it to anyone! It's easy to communicate with the team, and our guide Sarfaraz (Edward) was knowledgeable, fun and easygoing.Only point to improve was that they did not check whether Lalbagh was open on the day or not. We drove there, and it was closed. It's still a must to elevate your understanding of both Dhaka and Bangladesh 🇧🇩

Living in Dhaka, I did experience old Dhaka a few times, but never like this or in such detail. Mishak and his team are doing an excellent job. We got to see most of the heritage buildings and learn the history. They are very very thorough at what they do. Also very professional. We walked through many alleys with rich history, the spice market, banks of the Buriganga river and was lucky to be able to go up to a few rooftops and balconies with incredible views; which ARE the ‘secrets’ of Dhaka. I would suggest this for everybody, old and young, foreign or local. Sadly, we couldn’t do the food tour, or try any food places as we were short on time. Wear comfortable shoes, and that’s all you need! The rest will be taken care of by the team of SecretsBangladesh! Loved every bit and wasn’t bored for a minute. Thank you Secrets! 🙏

We visited some sites that are hardly covered within general tours but have very unique stories and meaning. Highlights were the visit to hidden architectural marvels and trying local delicacies from special cafes that I’d never find alone.
