Wir beginnen unsere Tour mit der Abholung vom Hotel in Cuenca. Wir fahren ungefähr eine Stunde zur Toreadora-Zuflucht, von wo aus wir eine Wanderung im Hochland durch das Moorökosystem von Feuchtgebieten und Seen unternehmen, um zum einzigartigen Wald der Polylepis-Bäume zu gelangen. Dies sind die am höchsten wachsenden Bäume der Welt und stammen aus Südamerika. Der Park umfasst ca. 768 Seen auf einer Fläche von 70.533 Hektar. Es ist eine der wichtigsten Wasserquellen in Cuenca und Ecuador. Es hat internationale Bekanntheit in mehreren Kategorien erlangt: Feuchtgebiet von internationaler Bedeutung im Jahr 2002 von RAMSAR, Gebiet von internationaler Bedeutung für die Erhaltung von Vögeln von IBA im Jahr 2003 und Biosphärenreservat von der UNESCO im Jahr 2013.

The hike in Las Cajas was fantastic! There were 3 other young ladies on the hike with us. We were guided by Winston. He paced the hike just right, took us to trails that were challenging and got us to excellent views. The lunch was good. The potato soup was delicious. The trout was just ok. A little bland. The warm drinks were good.

Beautiful hike through the nature reserve. Finished with a good hot meal. Make sure you wear good clothes or bring them with you. It can be cold and windy.
