Trowulan tour review: This tour is fantastic. If you are not specifically interested in history, this is a wonderful chance to be introduced to some architectural highlights of premodern Indonesia. If you are at all interested in history, then this tour is a magnificent way to explore the architectural heritage of Majapahit, the last of the great Hindu-Buddhist kingdoms of Indonesia, and one of the most powerful kingdoms in its history. Our guide, Mr. Suryono, was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Indonesian culture, history, and religion, and was a superb escort into the rich world of Majapahit. He was also very considerate of our needs and preferences, such as skipping the lunch and heading back a bit earlier to our hotel, as well as sending us names and terms of figured and concepts that we had encountered during the tour. Highly recommend!!
Thank you for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed exploring the architectural heritage of Majapahit and that our guide Mr. Suryono’s knowledge and passion helped bring its history and culture to life.. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you again on another journey in Indonesia!
We had a very good archaeological tour out of th ecity area that was all day. The tour was good, a little long and too hot for most of us to keep going to more sites. We hadordered a special lunch which didnt come and we were not told why, so we were not able to eat at all that day.
Dear Bruce, Thank you for your feedback and for joining our archaeological tour. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the tour overall. Regarding the meal, because your group was arriving by cruise ship and had limited time at port, a restaurant lunch was not arranged on that day. Instead, sandwiches with fries were provided during the tour. We have checked our records from that date, and most of the sandwiches provided to the group were eaten or taken by guests. As the tour took place around 30 days ago, there may have been some misunderstanding or confusion regarding the meal arrangements, but we would like to clarify that food was prepared and distributed on the tour day. Thank You
This was a very chill and informative tour. I loved getting to visit more local tourism spots. Everywhere was calm and relaxing. Our tour guide Agus was a walking history book. He explained the connections across cultures and key moments in Indonesian history for this region. If you like history this is a good tour options to learn about the diverse beliefs of Indonesia.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re delighted you enjoyed the calm atmosphere and local spots. Hope to welcome you again soon!
Agus was very knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend time with. He is professional and passionate about his career and country! Me and my Mom loved the tour. And highly recommend it!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We are very happy to hear that you and your Mom enjoyed the tour experience with Agus. Thank you once again for traveling with us, and we hope to welcome you back to Indonesia in the future!
The tour to Trowulan Tour Ruin was excellent. Our tour guide Agus was great and very knowledgeable on the history of the Majapahit Kingdom and the area. The pickup from our hotel in Surabaya was seem less and the lunch that was included was excellent.
To us, Pak Agus, our unassuming guide, is more a historian than a tour guide. He knows the history of everything we came across by heart and answered all our questions with learned details and genuine enthusiasm. We booked two trips separately on Viator - the Surabaya City tour and the Trowulan Majapahit historical site tour over two days - without realising that both were by the same firm. We were lucky to have Pak Agus guiding us through both trips. He walked us through the history of Surabaya like a pro. The next day, he patiently and earnestly narrated the Majapahit history for almost the entire 2 hours drive to the archaeological sites at Trowulan. Most impressively, he read the old Javanese words carved into the stones with ease, like a true archaeologist, even those with incomplete sentences that we picked randomly. At the end of the tours we unanimously agreed that he should be a history professor than a tour guide. Pak Agus aside, both tours were well organised and educational. Food was good and our driver, Pak Azil, was skillful and a safe driver. We highly recommend these tours.
To us, Pak Agus, our unassuming guide, was more historian than tour guide. He seemed to know the story behind everything we encountered and answered every question with depth, clarity, and genuine enthusiasm. We booked two separate trips on Viator - a Surabaya City Tour and a Trowulan Majapahit historical site tour - without realising they were run by the same company. It turned out to be a stroke of luck, because Pak Agus guided us on both days. In Surabaya, he walked us through the city’s past like a seasoned storyteller. The next day, during the nearly two-hour drive to Trowulan, he patiently and earnestly narrated the Majapahit history almost the entire way, setting the stage for what we were about to see. His story continued with greater details as he walked us through the 5 separate sites and a Museum. What impressed us most was his ability to read old Javanese inscriptions carved into stones with ease, like a true archaeologist, even when we pointed to random fragments with incomplete lines. By the end of the tours, we all agreed: Pak Agus belongs in a university lecture hall as much as he does on a tour. Beyond Pak Agus, both tours were well organised, smooth, and genuinely educational. The food was good, and our driver, Pak Azil, was skilful and drove safely throughout. We highly recommend these tours.
Trip was informative, very well organized and pleasant. My guide had great knowledge and shared it in the way that even for the person like me, who is not a history lover - it gave me a great incentive to Majapahit Kingdom history. Highly recommended to anyone who is visiting Surabaya!
Suhyono and our driver ( I apologize for not writing you name down!) were excellent. Yono is an excellent history teacher. The only drawback was the restaurant menu was in Indonesian and our interpretive app quit working. The guides do not eat with you and the wait staff spoke little to no English. But, the food was good.
Thank you for your feedback! We’re glad you enjoyed and learned so much from the tour. We appreciate your notes about the restaurant, very helpful for improving future experiences.
Super interesting tour! Our guide Andy and our driver organized the day and made it a great experience. Thank you so much!
Thank you! We’re so glad Andy and our driver made your day well-organized and a truly wonderful experience.
