Machen Sie es sich gemütlich und beobachten Sie, wie die Stadt in den Canterbury Plains verblasst, bevor sich Flusstäler verengen und die Südalpen um Sie herum nähern. Es gibt einen Aussichtswagen unter freiem Himmel, den Sie auschecken müssen!
Fahren Sie in den Arthur's Pass Nationalpark und tauschen Sie den Zug gegen etwas Persönlicheres. Ihr Cheeky Kiwi Fortgeschrittener trifft Sie hier mit einem modernen Mercedes Sprinter und dem passenden Ortswissen.
Auch bekannt als Todesecke und ein Blick erklärt warum. Das Otira Viadukt erstreckt sich auf 440 Metern über eine dramatische Alpenschlucht, und ohne sie gäbe es die Überquerung des Arthur's Pass auf der Straße einfach nicht. Es ist eine technische Leistung in einem Nationalpark, und die Aussicht in alle Richtungen ist atemberaubend. Halten Sie die Augen offen, der Kea, Neuseelands berüchtigter Alpenpapagei, mag ein Publikum.
Zurück ins Dorf für Ihre freie Stunde. Wenn Sie die Beine dafür haben, ist der Spaziergang zum Devils Punchbowl Wasserfall die Wahl, ein niedrig- bis mittelschwerer Weg durch einheimischen Busch, der an einer 131 Meter langen Kaskade endet, die in den Talboden stürzt. Lieber locker bleiben? Das Dorfcafé macht einen guten Kaffee und die lokalen Geschäfte sind einen Spaziergang wert.
Über einen offenen Hügel oberhalb des State Highway 73 verstreut, sind die Kalksteinfelsen von Castle Hill einer der ruhigsten Orte Neuseelands. Geologisch uralt, cineastisch berühmt, war dieser Schauplatz auch als Narnia in Der Löwe, Die Hexe und Der Kleiderschrank und kam in Der Herr der Ringe vor. Spazieren Sie zwischen den Formationen, beobachten Sie die Kletterer und Boulderer, die ihr Ding machen, und machen Sie die Fotos, von denen Sie nicht wussten, dass Sie sie brauchen. We had an amazing day trip to Arthur’s Pass! Everything was perfectly organized from start to finish. The bus was comfortable, the itinerary was well planned, and our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole journey enjoyable. The only thing that didn’t cooperate was the weather, but that’s something no one can control. Even with the rain, the scenery was beautiful, and we had a fantastic experience. Thank you for such a well-organized tour – we would definitely recommend it!
Amazing views on Tranzalpine leading up to Arthur's Pass. Tour guide took us to multiple points of interest and was full of knowledge. We did the tour with our son who is severely autistic and he fully enjoyed the entire experience. We recommend doing the one that includes lunch, just makes the day easier.
This tour was quintessentially New Zealand to me. Lovely day, beautiful scenery, collegial travel companions, and a flexible tour guide with a lyrical, knowledgeable commentary on the area. And the Castle Hill rocks - just outstanding! A wonderful adventure.

We were collected from our hotel easily and on time. Our group size was 8 - perfect. The train experience was excellent, with the plenty of room on the viewing platforms for taking photos. It was a miserable day, with it being cold and wet at Arthurs Pass but the group remained flexible with the itinerary and many laughs were had. Lunch was plentiful - one did not go hungry. Paul, our driver was brilliant with providing information along our tour and finishing the day with donuts in Springfield. We are thinking of doing this tour again on our next visit and hope for some snow on the mountain tops = makes for great photography.

This was one of the highlights of our trip. The TranzAlpine train journey was stunning from start to finish, and the small group return tour made the whole day very relaxed and enjoyable. Arthur’s Pass was beautiful, with enough time to walk around, take photos and enjoy the village. Castle Hill was also a special stop and definitely worth seeing. Well organised, comfortable and highly recommended.

We boarded the train in Christchurch and headed off to Arthur's Pass. Unfortunately, due to the train breaking down we didn't get to our intended destination. We rejoined our tour at Springfield and traveled to Castle Hill. The walk at Castle Hill was great with fabulous views. We then traveled back to Christchurch. Will definitely book the tour again on our next trip to Christchurch.
