Tour im Fluss Acheron

A lovely little trip. Just 10 of us in a minivan and we arrived at the river by 10.30 before the crowds. When you get there you can do as you wish for about 2 1/2 hours - follow the guide walking through the river and swimming, which all 10 of us did, but soon went at our own pace, and there is also an opportunity to go on a raft downstream which takes about 40 mins. Also a taverna on the river for drinks and a bite to eat. If you want to take photos, you need a waterproof phone cover, though there’s a shop on the side of the river that sells them for €5, and shoes for walking in the water on pebbles.

Yvonne a great guide. The trip was relaxing and just the right length in time. A guided walk to the river. A very cold paddle, swimming was a no for me. A raft ride and a nice riverside lunch.

Very enjoyable. Just the right amount of time in the river. Very relaxed, could do as much or as little as you want. I didn't swim but didn't feel I'd missed out. It is cold but outstanding scenery so you soon forget! Guide very informative and helpful.

Fantastic nature experience and fun to go rubber boating on the river even if the excursion was quite short. But worth 7€ anyway I think! The best thing was to wade through the sometimes icy river between the high mountains. So incredibly beautiful! Swimming shoes are recommended and no bags when you have to swim some parts due to different depths.

The tour was organised only the night before and all I knew was that it would be a morning kayak in the river. I had no idea it was THE river Acheron which has been on my wish list since the first time I visited Preveza two years prior! When I saw the beautiful waters (a cloudy blue/grey referred to glaukos or Payne’s Grey) I couldn’t believe it! We did tandem kayaking so Tasos (the tour guide) did the main steering and I helped occasionally. We did really well as we started behind two other kayaks and easily overtook them even though we were in absolutely no hurry. I honestly felt emotional to be there as it was so unexpected. I didn’t bring a phone and just took in every moment. I dipped my hands in and out of the cool waters many a time. We saw baby beavers and their mother in their home/burrow on the edge of the river. We saw more beavers, we saw turtle. I saw a fish and many birds. It was really a magical place and you are in the best hands with Epirus!

Great experience! Do all the river walk, put on swimsuits and only take your cell phone in a waterproof case! We then sat down at the cafe that is in front of the river and dive there 3-4 times! Frozen water but worth it.

Lovely place. Bathing in the regenerating river. Stop to eat at Taverna Panorama and try the trout. Exquisite. A nice diversion to crowded and chaotic beaches.

Best thing we did all holiday! The river is absolutely incredible and would definitely recommend going. Our guide was really lovely and gave us lots of information about the river and parga on the coach. You have about 3 hours to explore the river yourself and it’s definitely worth going early - you avoid lots of crowds and it was so peaceful!!

It was a really great trip. Many thanks to the tour guide Yvonne, who told a lot about the Acheron, Greek mythology and the area around Parga. The hike through the river is simply fantastic!

Amazing family experience. Our tour guide and driver were superb. I recommend checking the pick up location as we mistook this for the hotel itself and caused a delay to the start of the trip. We came prepared but there a places to get water shoes etc if you forget them.
