Das faszinierende alte Zentrum von Gjirokaster steht auf der UNESCO-Weltkulturerbeliste. Weitgehend mittelalterlich, mit einigen schönen Architektur zu bewundern, die die reiche Vergangenheit der Stadt widerspiegelt, ist es auf einem Hügel mit Blick auf ein Tal und Berge gebaut. Dieses interessante Museum vermittelt einen guten Eindruck von der Lebensweise Albaniens während der osmanischen Zeit. Auf dem Rückweg nach Saranda passieren wir den Nationalpark Syri I Kalter. In diesem friedlichen Wald werden wir (15 min) zur kristallklaren Quelle namens Blue Eye gehen, wo 900 m3 Wasser pro Minute aus der Tiefe der Erde kommen. Wenn es die Zeit zulässt, gibt es eine kurze Kaffeepause im Restaurant neben dem schnell fließenden Fluss im Park, bevor es zurück zum Hafen von Saranda geht.

Erste Station ist in Gjirokaster (Altstadt) Gjirokastra ist eine magische Stadt am Hang, die von Albaniens berühmtestem Autor Ismail Kadare (* 1936) in Chronicle in Stone wunderschön beschrieben wird. Sie zeichnet sich durch ihre Burg, mit klobigem Kalkstein und Schiefer gepflasterte Straßen, imposante Häuser mit Schieferdach und Blick auf das Drinatal aus. Hier gibt es seit 2500 Jahren eine Siedlung, aber heutzutage sind es die 600 „monumentalen“ Häuser aus der Osmanischen Zeit, die Besucher anziehen. Für Albaner ist die Stadt auch gleichbedeutend mit dem ehemaligen Diktator Enver Hoxha, der hier geboren wurde und dafür sorgte, dass die Stadt unter seiner Herrschaft relativ gut erhalten war, obwohl er heute hier in keiner Weise erinnert wird.
Zweiter Halt: Blue Eye. Albaniens berühmtes Blaues Auge (Syri i kaltër) ist eine Wasserquelle und ein Naturphänomen, das jeder Besucher miterleben sollte. Eine beliebte Touristenattraktion, der schöne helltürkisfarbene Fluss besticht durch seine Schönheit. In der Nähe von Muzinë in Albaniens Kreis Vlorë gelegen, sollten Sie ein Auto mieten, um zum berühmten Blauen Auge zu gelangen. Nachdem Sie der Beschilderung gefolgt sind und die Brücke überquert haben (wo Sie eine kleine Gebühr bezahlen), treffen Sie auf einen Parkplatz und einen Fußweg, der zum Blauen Auge führt. Sie werden zuerst vom umliegenden dichten Wald und dem schönen hellblauen Fluss, der durch dieses Naturparadies fließt, verzaubert sein. Das Blue Eye befindet sich unter einem kleinen Metallbalkon, der gebaut wurde, um einen genaueren Blick zu werfen. Obwohl Schwimmen über Schilder verboten ist, hindert es die Menschen nicht wirklich daran, direkt ins eiskalte Wasser zu springen.
Dritter Halt: Burg Lekuresi Schließlich erkunden Sie die Burg Lekuresi mit Panoramablick auf die umliegende Landschaft.

It was really a top experience! Both the tour guide and the bus driver were incredibly friendly and helpful. They took their time for everyone, were very patient and gave clear explanations. The atmosphere in the group was super cozy, partly thanks to our tour guide Jonah, who really made it something special. Everything was well organized and you immediately felt welcome. This tour is definitely recommended. If you are in Sarandë, you really can't miss this! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Nice combination of activities. Great transport with AC. Tourguide Jonah does this every day, but still remains enthusiastic. The time in Gjirokaster is a bit short if you want to go to the fortress and quite long if you don't.
The tour was great. Jona was a very knowledgeable and engaging tour guide and made the experience very interesting. There was a good amount of free time to explore the sites within the overall itinerary, and we managed to fit a lot into the day.

If you are in Sarande I would recommend Leka Tours. They took me to Gjirokaster, Blue Eye, and Lekursi castle. The tour guide was very friendly and welcoming. She is extremely knowledgeable. I learnt a lot about the history, geography and culture of Albania from her. The tour was educational and informative. Also the customer service is very good. I made the booking last minute, Leka Tours responded quick and was able to give me a tour the next day. Thank you Leka Tours for making this trip memorable. The duration of the tour is 7 hours or more not 5 to 6 as advertised. This makes it difficult to use as a shore expedition unless your ship is staying very late. The tour itself is fine but the van rides are quite long and the tour guide says little during these. The stops are enjoyable but far from outstanding. Our tour guide was friendly and helpful when we needed special arrangements for drop off.

She shared a lot of interesting information throughout the day and made sure everyone felt comfortable and enjoyed the experience. Gjirokastra is absolutely beautiful and definitely worth visiting. The Blue Eye is a must-see, with its stunning crystal-clear water, and the panoramic view from Lekursi Castle is truly unforgettable.
