Fun tour! The guide Captain B is very passionate about history. I also enjoyed the bar stops - the service and drinks were great!
The Charleston Boo Hag and Brews Geister- und Bartour

Beschreibung

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed this tour. I had trouble convincing him to join a ghost tour but the way Captain Brian approaches the ghost stories with a history lesson made it worthwhile for both of us. The bars were lowkey but Captain Brian knew all the bar staff and the drinks came out perfectly. We were able to make friends with the other guests and even went to another bar he recommended with another couple after the tour. The final serial killer story was my favorite. Overall would recommend 10/10 and I’m even more impressed my boyfriend enjoyed it as much as I did. Thanks Cap !
Highly recommend! Captain Brian was amazing! Very knowledgeable and personable. Overall, it was a fantastic experience!
This experience could have been much better. Bryan sent a text making sure that we were NOT intoxicated prior to the tour or we would be kicked out. This tour was more of a history lesson and wasn't scary what-so-ever. Bryan is a great guy but we expected more and that's why we were disappointed. We started in a pub and only had one stop during the entire tour. I think being a little intoxicated could have made it more fun!
VERY SCARY TOUR (But for other reasons) This experience absolutely could have been much better, I agree. Michelle you received the same automated txt message as every other group for the last few years 4 hours before the tour that explains where to meet, how to find me, what the tour entails, and to kindly not arrive intoxicated. It doesn't state anything about kicking people off it says that partner bars may not serve guests that are intoxicated and you may be therefore asked to leave the tour. The tour is a history-centric ghost tour with two bar stops along the way as per the description when you booked. Now to say it wasn't scary what-so-ever is absolutely untrue. I was terrified the whole time one of ya'll were going to do something stupid and of course someone did and while trying to scare each other by screaming and pushing each other one of you tripped and fell and ya'll all had to leave the tour early. Ya'll didn't even make it thru the whole tour. There were other guests on the tour that were not part of your group! Can you reflect on how your groups behavior had on someone else's experience who also paid for this tour. I mean seriously and I'm not trying to be jerk but members of your group are talking the whole time, constantly stopping, tripping over each other, how scary is any tour going to be? For a tour guide this is my worst nightmare, letting down folks that joined the same tour because I couldn't maintain any semblance of control. Sure $35 a person, this isn't some luxury experience. But I would hope people would have more respect for other guests time, my time, and especially your own time. It was literally a downright miserable night for me, and that is not something I say about my job very often . I was thrown off my game and I should have made some corrective actions. Thankfully it is very rare but the guests that drink too much beforehand are often the ones that have the least fun, are more disruptive, and frankly don’t remember much of the tour anyways. It is real simple, just kindly don’t show up intoxicated. It doesn’t mean don’t enjoy a beverage before the tour. I have put together the below imagery that explains this in a nicer way: Guests that do this before the tour: 🍻 🍻 🍻 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍻 🍹 🍹 🍷 =🥱😴🤢😡 Guests that don’t overindulge before the tour: 🍺 🍹 = 😁😂😎 👻 On a personal note these reviews sting sometimes. When I respond it’s hard to stay objective without being defensive. If you stuck with me this long I am only human and it really sucks when really nothing could have changed the situation due to the guest behavior. If I asked them to leave I would get 6 bad reviews. If I have them stay, I risk annoying the other guests. Darned if I do and Darned if I don't. I could change this tour and stop going to bars altogether, make my life easier. Take out larger groups like the big tour companies where people follow me like sheep and do not have the chance to sit down and engage with me as local guide. I could tell the “scary” made up BS stories that never happened. I could placate drunks and shorten everything to just get done as soon as possible. But that would not have been fair to the other guests who joined that night expecting a good time. It would not be fair to future guests who can handle a bar stop or two without creating a spectacle. It would not be fair to the hundreds of guests who have left some of the nicest and endearing reviews based on me providing the exact experience I advertise. So if you want a clown show with a bunch of drunks please do not book this. If you want a history based ghost tour with bars stops, small group size, and a lifelong local as your guide I would love to have you. To the reviewer above, safe travels and thanks for the partial compliment and I’m sorry I did not live up to your expectations. You didn't exactly live up to mine either. I brought extra treats for ya'll as it was your birthday, I checked in the next morning with the booking party to make sure the woman who fell when ya'll were playing around was ok. I went out of my way to try and keep the tour on track and I didn't fail because of lack of effort on my part. I'm sure you all are nice people and were simply in vacation mode but I'm not a high schooler doing this as a part time job or to babysit people that want to drink all night. I am a historical commissioner for a town of 93,000 people and love sharing that history and ghost lore with guests if they are receptive to it. If anyone feels the need to “drink more” to be able to enjoy this tour, then maybe that person should have drunk less beforehand. Best of luck to ya'll Michelle. Also, it’s Captain Bryan.
Great tour and tour guide! Brian was awesome.
Bryan was an awesome local guide. We had lots of thunder and lightning and passing showers so he had to make modifications as we went along and we still had an amazing time. I don’t feel like we missed out on anything. We started at an Irish pub where we had an app and some great drinks and cool local ghost stories then went on to more locations and another spot to get a drink. His stories were based on true historical people of Charleston and very interesting. Would definitely recommend!
Incredible ghost tour from a local of Charleston who cares about the history of his city. Can’t say enough good things about this tour. I wish we could have done other tours with Capt Bryan while we were here. Thanks for an awesome tour!
A great guy! Funny and engaged. Love the historical background twist to the tour. Unexpected, but loved it!
Very knowledgeable historian ………….. Great recommendations for breakfast the next day. Helpful in all areas.
This was a fabulous tour. If you're looking for unsubstantiated stories about people who didn't exist, even if they're good stories, this isn't your tour. But if you're looking for a history-based approach to the lore of this fascinating, complicated and beautiful City, you couldn't do a better tour than this. The group size was small to provide a more intimate experience and we all had a good time. Highly recommend and would do it again on a future visit.
Shelly, thanks so much for the wonderful review. You are so right we don’t have to fictionalize the past for the sake of tours, history is incredible as it is. Safe travels and until next time ! -Capt B
