It is primarily a driver to two locations. Ours was also a helpful guide. Both sites are definitely worth going to.
We quickly realised that our driver was only that, a driver, not a tour guide. That was disappointing as we would have liked more info about both Mt Etna and Taormina. The Mt Etna experience was interesting and I am glad I have been, but obviously very crowded and commercialised. I should have done more research beforehand. We were then driven to Taormina and dropped off at Catania gate. This leads to a series of restaurants and shops very similar to that in Syracuse, where were based. Again, no explanation of history or geography and we were under prepared in that regard. Not interested in shopping!

On the day trip to Etna and Taormina from Syracuse, both Giuliana and the driver were very helpful and friendly. Special praise goes to the tour guide, who always knew how to meet the different needs of the participants, whether linguistically (English and Italian) or according to the fitness level. We were fortunate enough to have nobody else join us in the day for the tour so benefitted from a private tour around Etna & Taormina. Marco (the tour guide) was so knowledgeable of his city and the area, very easy to talk to and friendly I feel I have made a friend in him and will continue to keep in touch for many years. Amazing amazing experience. Tour guide (Marco) was patient, down to earth and spoke great English (hard to find around here). Took his time to explain every part of tour and allowed me the chance to explore when I could. Highly recommend!
