Villa d'Este ist eines der bemerkenswertesten und raffiniertesten Beispiele der Renaissance-Kultur. Aufgrund seines innovativen Projekts und der Kreativität der architektonischen Komponenten des Parks (Brunnen, Zierbecken usw.) stellt er ein einzigartiges Beispiel eines italienischen Gartens aus dem 16. Jahrhundert dar. Villa d'Este, einer der ersten Wundergärten, diente als Vorbild und hatte entscheidenden Einfluss auf die Gartenentwicklung in Europa. Der Komplex, bestehend aus dem Palast und dem Garten, wurde von Pirro Logorio im Auftrag des ferraresischen Kardinals Ippolito II. d'Este erbaut, der, nachdem er 1550 Gouverneur der Stadt Latium geworden war, eine seinem neuen Status entsprechende Residenz wünschte. Die Struktur bildet ein unregelmäßiges Viereck und umfasst eine Fläche von etwa 4,5 Hektar. Der Grundriss der Villa ist unregelmäßig, da der Architekt gezwungen war, einige Teile des bereits bestehenden Klostergebäudes zu nutzen.

Cancelled by tour operator less than 24 hours prior to tour while we were flying to Italy very sad as we were really looking forward this tour - makes me Leary to book future adventures
Thank you for your feedback. We understand your disappointment and regret that the tour could not take place as originally planned. Unfortunately, the guide assigned to the tour experienced an unexpected health issue shortly before departure, a circumstance that was beyond our control. Rather than cancelling immediately, we offered an alternative solution with a bilingual English-French guide so that the tour could still operate, and we also proposed moving the booking to another available date. However, these alternatives did not meet your preferences, and the reservation was therefore cancelled. While we fully appreciate your frustration, situations related to unforeseen illness can occasionally arise despite careful planning. We always do our best to find workable solutions and avoid cancellations whenever possible. We wish you a wonderful stay in Italy and hope you were able to enjoy many other memorable experiences during your trip.
This tour has been the highlight of our trip so far. We were picked up from our hotel, and we were transported in luxury to both Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este. Monica is a wonderful tour guide, and her detailed descriptions really helped us to imagine what it was like to live in that time. I feel like you also learn much more with a private tour guide, as it’s more like a conversation and you are able to ask all your questions. She very kindly took a lot of lovely pictures of my wife and I. We are so very appreciative or the care and consideration that was put into this tour. I highly recommend this tour with no reservations whatsoever.

Our guide was exceptional, providing lots of information on not only what we were looking at but answering unrelated questions about Roman history, art, etc. It was a perfect day, so the views and the gardens were gorgeous! The service and courtesy were also very good. Generally an outstanding morning!

I booked a semi-private tour in Italian, also confirmed by Viator customer service, but at the time of the meeting I found myself in front of an American couple who spoke English and the guide who informed me that the tour would be conducted in English. The situation was quite embarrassing for both me and the driver. Despite the difficulties, with the help of the translator and the guide who alternated English and Italian to ensure that I could follow. Apart from this significant problem, considering also the price paid, the guide was fantastic and did everything to make us participate. The driver was also great; finding the van with the air conditioning on after waiting outside in 35 degrees was a real relief. In general, I award the tour four stars. If I only had to rate the organization, I'd probably only give it one star. I hope this feedback will help improve the experience for future customers."

We had both a driver and guide. Both were excellent. The guide was deep in knowledge about the sites. Both were very accommodating to the limitations of some of our family members.

Villa d’este is gorgeous. The fountains are amazing. Imagining what Hadrian’s Villa had been was fun.
