Villa Adriana, die schönste kaiserliche Villa, entworfen und erbaut von Kaiser Hadrian, dem der Palatin-Palast in Rom nicht gefiel und der daher in den letzten Jahren seiner Herrschaft das Reich von Tivoli aus regierte. Wahrlich, kein Kaiser schätzte den von seinen Vorgängern geschaffenen Palast so sehr, aber Hadrian verabscheute das Gedränge, die Promiskuität, die Intrigen und das Chaos in Rom, wo er so wenig wie möglich residierte und so viel wie möglich reiste.
Villa d'Este ist eines der bemerkenswertesten und raffiniertesten Beispiele der Renaissance-Kultur. Aufgrund seines innovativen Projekts und der Kreativität der architektonischen Komponenten des Parks (Brunnen, Zierbecken usw.) stellt er ein einzigartiges Beispiel eines italienischen Gartens aus dem 16. Jahrhundert dar. Villa d'Este, einer der ersten Wundergärten, diente als Vorbild und hatte entscheidenden Einfluss auf die Gartenentwicklung in Europa. Der Komplex, bestehend aus dem Palast und dem Garten, wurde von Pirro Logorio im Auftrag des ferraresischen Kardinals Ippolito II. d'Este erbaut, der, nachdem er 1550 Gouverneur der Stadt Latium geworden war, eine seinem neuen Status entsprechende Residenz wünschte. Die Struktur bildet ein unregelmäßiges Viereck und umfasst eine Fläche von etwa 4,5 Hektar. Der Grundriss der Villa ist unregelmäßig, da der Architekt gezwungen war, einige Teile des bereits bestehenden Klostergebäudes zu nutzen.

We spent almost 2 hours with our amazing guide Monica at Hadrians Villa. She was exceptionally knowledgeable. We then went to Villa D’Este and spent another 90 minutes there. It was a very in depth experience with fabulous things to see. Absolutely recommend this trip

Car pick up and return to hotel was good. Driver spoke very little English. He offered no information, unless asked. Just dropped us off, at each site, handed us a map. We were on our own, guideless. In fact got lost at Adrian’s villa. Nice sites to visit . Nice to see a tivoli countryside. Nice getaway from Rome. The getyourguide tour was just a hired car to pick us up, drop at sites and return to hotel. No guide at all. Not what I expected.

Great historical perspective on Ancient Rome. Architecture design and structure is impressive. The fountains are spectacular. Archaeological recovery work is amazing. Take something to drink during the tour

This private tour was definitely worth the extra cost. Both our driver and our guide were courteous and professional. We were picked up on time (and very much appreciated being met at our hotel). We had plenty of time to enjoy both sites without feeling rushed. Our guide was very knowledgable and answered all our questions. We especially liked the tour of Hadrian’s villa, as that site was truly exceptional from an historical perspective. The tour does not include a lunch stop, so be sure to have breakfast that morning! We did stop for something to drink, but there was no time to have a snack. (We were aware of this, so we are not complaining. It is simply something to note.)

Hadrian’s Villa is amazing, we learned so much and it was so special to be there before it opened. Our amazement continued with a gorgeous visit to Villa d”Este. Fabio was an excellent extremely knowledgeable guide who knew not only exquisite details and history of Villa Adriana and Villa di Este but also of Roman history in general.
