Seit 1953 ist das nationale Theater für griechische Tänze von "Dora Stratou" das lebendige Museum des griechischen Tanzes und in seiner Art einzigartig in der Welt. Tänze, Lieder und Musik werden in ihrer ursprünglichen Form präsentiert, wie sie in den jeweiligen Dörfern oder Inseln Griechenlands aufgeführt wurden oder noch ausgeführt werden. Alle von den Künstlern getragenen Kostüme sind authentische Museumsstücke, die in diesen Dörfern vor mehr als einem Jahrhundert handgefertigt wurden. In der Garderobe des Theaters befinden sich 2.000 solcher historischen Kostüme aus ganz Griechenland, komplett mit Schmuck und Accessoires. Umfangreiche Feldstudien eines Forscherteams unter der Leitung von Professor Alkis Raftis unterstützen die Wiedergabetreue des Originals.

It would be helpful if directions could be generated and shared with those purchasing tickets for this event because the signage within the Old City to locate the outdoor theatre was poor. We had difficulties finding our way there but wow, what a show! Highly recommend this cultural experience! Pat

Nice experience to hear regional Greek music and dances from all over the country and islands. Shame you do not understand what singers are singing about. Get ready, no sirtaki. Bring a sweater also in September!
