Modiano ist einer der traditionsreichsten Märkte von Thessaloniki. Es befindet sich im Herzen der Stadt und gehört seit etwa 80 Jahren zum Leben der Thessalonicher. Der Bau begann 1922 und wurde 1930 vom Architekten Eli Modiano abgeschlossen. Eli stammte aus einer angesehenen jüdischen (sephardischen) Familie aus Thessaloniki und war der Sohn des Bankiers Jacob (Yako) Modiano. Er studierte Architektur in Paris, Frankreich, und kehrte nach Thessaloniki zurück, wo er einige der wichtigsten Gebäude der Stadt schuf, darunter den Modiano-Markt.
Der Athonos-Platz im Zentrum der Stadt ist den ganzen Tag über voller Leben und ein beliebter Ort, sowohl für Thessalonicher als auch für Touristen. Hier spielen Lebensmittel und Ernährung die Hauptrolle. Hier finden Sie Gewürze, alle Arten von Tee, Nüsse, Gemüse und Obst, Fisch, Feinkostprodukte sowie kleine Boutiquen mit Kleidung, handgefertigten Accessoires und Dekorationsartikeln. Außerdem wird Ihre Aufmerksamkeit sofort auf die Gerüche der köstlichen Speisen der traditionellen Tavernen des Platzes gelenkt! Sie können sie sowohl mittags als auch abends genießen, gelegentlich begleitet von griechischer Live-Musik. Falls Sie außerdem die traditionelle Seite des Athonos-Platzes kennenlernen möchten, besuchen Sie die malerischen kleinen Läden, die handgefertigte Korbwaren und kleine Holzmöbel verkaufen, die von den letzten verbliebenen erfahrenen Handwerkern hergestellt wurden.
Louloudadika ist ein kleiner Teil des historischen Stadtzentrums mit den Straßen von Komninon, Frangon und Vas. Herakliou, das seinen Namen von den alten Outdoor-Floristen hat, die dort waren. Leider sind heute nur noch 4 Läden in Betrieb. In den 50er Jahren gab es 11 Läden, in denen alle Arten von Blumen verkauft wurden und deren Bekanntheit die Provinzstädte erreichte.

Had an amazing tour led by guide Nikos. Immediately felt comfortable touring the city and learned so much about the food, history and culture! Come hungry. Like very hungry. I was so full by the end 🤣 nikos went above and beyond showing me the metro system and the history behind it!
A great combination of the flavors and tastes of Thessaloniki while learning about the historical context of the food and region. Our tour guide was friendly, accommodating, and very knowledgeable! We had a fantastic walking food tour of Thessaloniki ! Nikos was a very interesting, informative & funny host. We learned a lot about the history of the city & its food. The tour was very good with lots of information and conversation. The two hours was just about right and the distance not to long on what was a hot day. We’ll be going back to many of the places we visited.

Nico was an amazing guide. This tour included plenty of local foods as well as a great history of the area and tour of the city. It felt like spending the afternoon with a friend. Would highly recommend this tour.

We had a really great, varied and delicious food tour. We also learned about backgrounds of Thessaloniki and the tour guide was very nice and pleasant.
Our guide Niksos really did his homework checking to make sure he took us to all fresh, handmade bakeries and restaurants and every dish we sampled was top notch! Fresh filo dough rolled by hand for the spanikopita, the bougata was so yummy and every other sweet treat was amazing. Greek coffee was very interesting - not sure if I’ll will give up my morning Nespresso for it but enjoyed it just the same. Very enjoyable tour - highly recommend.
