Experiment was amazing and the tour persons were great! They have a lot knowledge and were really detailed with their explanations. Alex made everything interesting and fun from start to finish.

Alex was great. Excellent info and vibe. However there are a lot of logistics that could be improved. We waited a while to start the tour, and it wasn’t clear that we wouldn’t be eating lunch until seven hours after the tour start. Would’ve been great to know we should pack a light meal to get us through. Also the stop at the obsidian factory was pretty touristy, it would’ve been better to spend more time at the pyramid complex. The lunch was tasty, but the drinks were weirdly expensive. All of the historical stops were interesting and Alex did a great job of making history come alive.

100% recommended experience. Both Miriam (guide) and Francisco (driver) were very professional. We chose the option without food and we did not regret it, since we were able to choose a la carte and it worked out cheaper for us. What I would recommend is making the reservation directly with Amigo Tour, which is the Mexican agency that runs the excursion.

The tour was a fascinating window into both Mexico’s history and its current culture and historical memory. The tour guide Alex was welcoming, knowledgeable, and energetic. We first visited the shrine to Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Alex told us the moving story of the revelations that inspired her worship, mixing historical facts about religious syncretism under conquest with a clear eye into how modern Catholics understand her. Then there was a tequila/pulque tasting, which isn’t for me but our guide was totally respectful about the fact that I don’t drink. We then visited the prehispanic city of Teotihuacan, where we learned about Mesoamerican dualism and polytheism, the processes of archaeological preservation, strontium testing, and reconstruction, and the influence of Teotihuacan on other cultures. Got a bit sunburned—it’s very exposed on top of the pyramids so be mindful. We then had a good but very expensive lunch (and saw local traditional dancers). Finally, we visited the Plaza of Three Cultures in Tlatelolco (the old Aztec mercantile capital) and learned the history of the Spanish conquest and the repression of the 1968 student movement in Tlatelolco (this one is heartbreaking but an incredibly important piece of context to understand). I was consistently amazed by how hopeful Alex was and the level of political courage and appreciation of cultural diversity in the mainstream Mexican historical memory he referenced. Many of us around the world can learn a great deal from this approach to constraining government power and healing colonial legacies.

Alex was great, very detailed, lots of knowledge. John was a safe driver. Very enjoyable. I found the section about the student protest in the plaza of three cultures particularly interesting.

Great storytelling ability, really enjoyed.
