Excellent overall experience- make sure and see the Māori cultural performance. Entire morning was enjoyed by mom and dad as well as our 5 and 8 year olds.
The guided Te Puia trip was set up well and was a fun experience to learn about Maori culture. The staff at the facility were kind and supportive. I especially remember the walk about the natural volcanic spring, seeing how big the dodo was, and observing the different Maori artifacts in their exhibit.
I have visited Te Puia several times. This was the second time I was chosen as the peaceful leader in the welcoming ceremony. I volunteered the first time and this year I was selected by the guide.
Tēnā koe (hello), Thank you for your continued support and for visiting Te Puia on multiple occasions. It’s wonderful to hear that you were once again selected to take on the role of rangatira (chief) during the pōhiri (welcoming ceremony). Being chosen by the guide this time must have made the experience even more special. We love hearing from manuhiri (visitors) who return and create memories with us each visit. Thank you for sharing this unique part of your experience, and we hope to welcome you back again in the future. Kia pai te rā (have a nice day)
Obviously very much a large-scale operation but excellent nonetheless! Great staff and the Maori experience was extremely well done. The highlight of my trip to Rotorua.
Tēnā koe (hello), Thank you for your wonderful review. We're delighted to hear that your visit was a highlight of your time in Rotorua. It's great to know our kaimahi (team) helped make your experience memorable and that you enjoyed learning about Māori culture through the cultural performance. Sharing our stories, traditions, and geothermal wonders with manuhiri (visitors) is something we're very proud of. Kia pai te rā (have a nice day)
Fabulous experience, we did the last tour of the day. Not as busy. Guide was great!
We did this tour late morning. Guide was informative and passionate. Start at visitor center as we headed out she pointed out the geysers were going but would be done before we got there. We saw kiwis in their habitat, and then a giant mud pool. We got over to the geyser area and got lots of info. Then on a tram to the craft school, which was great You can walk back down on your own after the tour for the geysers which were excellent
We had a fabulous experience with Kaia today! She was informative, friendly, professional, passionate and helpful in answering our questions! The visit to the arts centre was fantastic, seeing the indigenous artists at work. Thank u Kaia for making our visit to Te Puia so memorable!
Tēnā koe (hello), Thanks so much for the lovely review. We’re so happy to hear you had such an amazing visit with Kaia and that she helped make your time at Te Puia so memorable. It’s wonderful to know you enjoyed her warm and informative guidance, and that your visit through the New Zealand Māori Arts & Crafts Institute was a highlight. Seeing our tohunga (expert carvers and weavers) and tauira (students) at work is always something special, and we’re glad that part of the experience stood out for you. Ngā mihi (thank you) again for taking the time to share this. Kia pai te rā (have a nice day)
Got to see two of the three kiwis in the conservation centre. Riley the guide was good. The geyser was erupting. Managed to see the haka and Maori cultural show
Loved every part of it, especially our tour guide Paul. He was so informative & witty. The grounds are incredible as was the Maori performance. Na Meh hee. Thank you from your Indigenous relatives in the US.
Tēnā koe (hello), That’s awesome to hear, really appreciate you sharing this! We're glad you loved every part of your visit and that Paul made the tour fun and full of great kōrero (stories) too, he’ll be happy hearing that. Ngā mihi as well to you, it means a lot hearing from our Indigenous whānau (family) from the US. Safe travels on the rest of your journey. Kia pai te rā (have a nice day)
We did the Te Rā combo experience, which included the Te Rā guided tour, buffet lunch, and cultural performance. We appreciated how flexible Te Puia staff were. We were running late for our scheduled start time due to unforeseen road closures, and staff worked with us when we arrived to make sure we still experienced every portion of the overall tour. We enjoyed our entire experience at Te Puia. The cultural performance was full of energy and emotion. The buffet lunch was delicious and had a lot of variety. The guided tour was well-paced and very informative - seeing & learning about kiwi, the mud pools, and the Māori Arts & Crafts Institute were all highlights. Would recommend!
Tēnā koe (hello), Really appreciate you taking the time to share this, sounds like you made the most of the Te Rā experience which is awesome to hear. We’re glad our kaimahi (team) could help you still enjoy everything without missing out. We're glad to hear the cultural performance left an impression, there’s a lot of heart and wairua (spirit) in those moments. And glad you enjoyed the kai (food) too, the hāngī buffet is something we take a lot of pride in. The guided tour sounds like it hit the mark as well, especially getting to see the kiwi, geothermal areas, and spending time at the New Zealand Māori Arts & Crafts Institute. Ngā mihi (thank you) for the recommendation, it really means a lot to us. Kia pai te rā (have a nice day)
