The Zoo had a good amount of exhibits plenty to see. The view of Syndey Harbor from the zoo is outstanding. Highly recommend starting at the top and working your way down
The Taronga Zoo is an excellent zoo, easily one of the best that I have ever been to (and I’ve been to a lot). Just a few things: 1. You pretty much need to take a ferry to get there, but that was part of the adventure. 2. When we got there, people were catching a bus to an entrance. We just used the entrance that was right by the dock. It was not busy at all and the exhibits here were not crowded at all. It was an uphill walk though, but it was a good trade off for minimal people around. 3. This strategy also helped with the restaurant there for lunch. It was empty when we got there at 11 (but got busy after). We got our food very quickly and had our choice of seating. 4. Great mixture of native Australian animals and international animals. Even got to see a pretty active Tasmanian devil and platypus. 5. The zoo is big. We were there almost all day and still had to skip a section of the zoo (seals and the Africa section). This is definitely a premiere zoo and you get some good cardio with it. And for those interested, we did both this and Featherdale Wildlife Park and were not sure if it would feel redundant. While there are some similar animals, they are very different. The zoo has a mix of animals, takes quite a bit of time, and is more visually appealing. Featherdale allows for more interaction with animals and it only have Australian animals. Both are enjoyable.
What a great way to spend the afternoon with cute creatures! The zoo is expansive and clean. Plan to spend the whole day there if you want to see all of the exhibits. We only had 3hrs before our boat took us back but we were still able to have a good time and see a good amount of animals.
Every time I am in Sydney, I go to the Taronga Zoo. I have been doing that since 1988. I have just returned from my 22nd trip to Sydney, and the same number of times to the Zoo. The variety of animals, used to make the day out there, a wonderful experience. That is no longer the case. Many of the large animals are no longer there. They have been moved to other Zoos. The group of delightful Meerkats, was down to 3. They looked completely lost in their enclosure. One of the big attractions, was the Bird Show. That has changed a lot and is not the exciting show it was. Even the numerous staff who were always around to help you negotiate the enormous site, were noticeable by their absence Yes, the beautiful view of the City is still the same, but overall, the Zoo has lost a lot of its charm and excitement. I was disappointed this time. My friends who live in Sydney, told me I would be. I didn't expect to be, but I was. Normally I thought nothing of the entry cost because a full day spent at the Zoo, was worth it. This time I was only there for 3 hours. If you are thinking of a trip there with a family, it will be quite expensive now. If you have never been before, the overall experience, will still be enjoyable. If you have been before, and are returning to capture the wonderful past experience, it is sadly not the same at all.
Great selection of animals, hilly, great location, great views, easy to get to from Circular Quay, great staff
It is a beautiful zoo. Definitely worth a visit. Animal habitats are all planned and cared for. Zoo keepers give great talks. You need a full day. You can arrive by Uber and then leave by the ferry. When you purchase general ticket just go in and show your pass.
We treated our 12-year-old grandson to a day at Taronga Zoo for his birthday. He loved finding the different animals, and being out to tour guide and following the map. Great map we loved it! The restaurant area could do with a bit of renovation.
Hopefully you get a driver/ tour person who speaks clearly. We had a really nice driver but I only understood about 1/3 of his conversations because of his accent . That was disappointing.
We had great fun here, the tigers and lions are magnificent! You can see that they really look after their animals and have a real care. Would definitely recommend!
Amazing zoo and epic encounters (Koalas). The gift shop is great and restrooms clean. Staff are friendly too.
