Nonthaburi, eine der zentralen Provinzen Thailands, gegründet durch das Gesetz zur Gründung von Changwat Samut Prakan, Changwat Nonthaburi, Changwat Samut Sakhon und Changwat Nakhon Nayok, buddhistische Ära 2489, das am 9. Mai in Kraft trat Benachbarte Provinzen sind (von Norden im Uhrzeigersinn): Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, Bangkok und Nakhon Pathom. Nonthaburi ist nach Bangkok die am dichtesten besiedelte Provinz. Das Zentralgefängnis Bang Kwang liegt in der Provinz.
Am Ufer des Maenam Chao Phraya, westlich der Stadtinsel, liegt Wat Chaiwatthanaram. Wat Chai Wattanaram wurde 1630 von König Prasat Thong zu Ehren seiner Mutter erbaut und war als Nachbildung des Angkor-Tempels konzipiert. Wat Chaiwattanaram, eine der meistbesuchten historischen Stätten von Ayutthaya, liegt am Ufer des Flusses Chao Phraya westlich der Stadtinsel. Der Tempel wurde 1630 von König Prasat Thong zu Ehren seiner Mutter erbaut und weist den architektonischen Stil auf, der vom Angkor-Tempel in Kambodscha beeinflusst ist. Sein einzigartiges Merkmal ist ein großer, zentraler Prang (Pagode im Khmer-Stil), der von kleineren Prangs umgeben ist, die den Berg symbolisieren Sumeru, der Berg der Götter nach hinduistischem Glauben. Die nächtliche Beleuchtung macht den Tempel noch exotischer und schöner.
Dieses Kloster liegt über einen Kilometer hinter dem Wat Suanluangsopsawan neben dem Wat Worachettharam. Das Kloster ist über die Straße innerhalb des Geländes der Brennerei oder über die Straße hinter dem Phlapphla Trimuk (Dachpavillon mit drei Giebeln) erreichbar und befindet sich im Bereich des Alten Palastes. Fahren Sie an Wat Woraphot und Wat Worachettharam vorbei, bis Sie den Freiluftstandort des großen liegenden Buddha erreichen, der aus Ziegeln besteht und mit Gips bedeckt ist und etwa 29 Meter lang ist. Die Ruinen großer sechseckiger Säulen in der Nähe des Bildes gelten als Ruinen des Ubosot.
Wat Phra Si Sanphet befand sich auf dem Gelände des Großen Palastes – dessen Fundamente noch sichtbar sind – und diente wie Wat Phra Kaeo in Bangkok als königliche Kapelle. Dieser Wang-Lung-Palast (Königspalast) wurde von König U-Thong bei der Gründung der Stadt erbaut. Als Wohnpalast genutzt, wurde er unter König Ramathibodi I. zu einem Kloster. Als König Borom Trai Lokanat den Bau neuer Wohnräume befahl, wurde dieser Wohnpalast in einen Tempel umgewandelt und der Wat Phra Si Sanphet errichtet. In der Blütezeit Ayutthayas war dies der größte Tempel der Stadt. Die drei restaurierten Haupt-Chedis enthalten die Asche von drei Ayutthaya-Königen.

Wat Mahathat befindet sich vor dem Großen Palast im Osten, neben der Pa-Than-Brücke. Wat Phra Mahathat, Thailand, war ein königlicher Tempel des Königreichs Ayutthaya. Er ist einer der ältesten und bedeutendsten Tempel in der Geschichte von Ayutthaya, da er die heilige Reliquie des Buddha beherbergte. Viele wichtige königliche Zeremonien der Ayutthaya-Ära wurden hier abgehalten. Als das Königreich Ayutthaya 1767 scheiterte, wurde Wat Phra Mahathat durch einen Brand schwer beschädigt und seitdem verlassen. Der Tempel befindet sich heute im Bereich des Ayutthaya Historical Park. Zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten im Wat Phra Mahathat von Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya gehören Überreste wichtiger alter Gebäude wie Pagoden, achteckige Pagoden, die Königshalle, kleine Tempel, Wandgemälde unter einem Bodhi-Baum und der berühmte Kopf der Buddha-Statue aus Sandstein im Ayutthaya-Stil die Wurzel eines Baumes.

Despite the hot and humid weather, this was a well-organized and enjoyable tour of Thailand’s former capital. My only critique was that communication prior to the tour could have been better as I didn’t hear from the tour operator on a confirmation until three days prior to the tour. Also, this is a bus tour as opposed to a van tour so initial pickups via van from hotels will essentially be a shuttle to the bus stop where guests will check in before boarding the tour bus itself.
Lots of great stops and lunch! William our guide was informative and funny. Worthwhile trip outside of the city.
Excellent full day tour to the temple ruins of Ayutthaya, located about 90 minutes outside of Bangkok. Very easy meeting point to find, and guests were organized into their respective tours by placing a sticker on your shirt with your tour operator's name. The bus was quite comfortable, and water was provided both on board, and at the restaurant for lunch. Optional soft drinks could be purchased at the restaurant itself. Our guide, Jum (whose English was great), provided a fantastic overview of each temple that we were to visit. She also educated us a lot about the city's history on the bus ride out to Ayutthaya, and the importance it played as a one-time capital of Thailand. Jum guided you through the entrance to each temple, gave a brief synopsis of the highlights of each temple, and then released you with a sufficient period of time to explore/take pictures on your own. A set meeting time was established for all guests to meet back at the bus afterwards. For some reason, by mistake, I chose a price that didn't include lunch or the entrance fee to the last (and most detailed) temple, but Jum was able to collect payment from me onboard the bus, so that we didn't miss out on these two occasions. So I would suggest choosing the tour price that includes the lunch and last temple, since you're most likely going to enjoy these two activities with the rest of the guests anyway. Jum was sweet, and did a short "thank you" speech as we boarded the bus for our return trip, and then left you alone to either rest, or visit with other passengers while traveling back to the drop-off point (different than the starting point, and within steps of a BTS station). Well worth the money, and a special thanks again to our knowledgeable guide, Jum!!
We enjoyed the tour. Pretty fascinating to see the ruins still standing from 500-600 years ago. If you enjoy history then I would recommend.
Our guide was really friendly and helpful. He had some interesting facts to impart. I would say the lunch could have been slightly better for me. But otherwise a really well ran tour. Kept to time and managed to spend a good amount of time in the 4 different locations. I did not feel that I was being rushed at any point.
Sam is an excellent guide, thorough and caring about everyone in the group. You learn a lot. It was very hot for us and he made sure we had plenty of water and access to the ac bus at all times. He takes pictures for us, he is super pleasant and extremely knowledgeable. Very informative, lunch was very good.
This was a great tour, saw a good selection of temples with a very informative guide. Also a great photographer too! We had originally planned to do a trip by ourselves but doing a tour was definitely the best choice! great value as well. The lunch is decent!

Coach journey with about 24 people. Air conditioned coach, plenty of free cold water through the day...... Lovely lunch stop, great guide.... SAM is the BEST!!
