Türkische Essenswanderung in Izmir

We were both excited about our Food Walking Tour in Izmir. However the whole experience fell short of expectations despite knowing that Izmir has a fabulous food offering dating back centuries with both Ottoman and Levantine influences. The price we paid was £130 each (TRL 17,000) and yet we got the cheapest of foods to try: a boyoz made of layers of pastry; a plate of beans to share; a portion of lahmacun and pide to share; a portion of kofte in bread to share and a slice of șambali to taste. Our guide, Elcin was knowledgable but unfortunately did not show any passion for what she was doing. It was a total rip off for unsuspecting tourists! We had recently been on a Two Continents food tour in Istanbul which was just superb, with entire meals as well as street food with an interesting knowledgable food guide. We have never forgotten that tour, one of the best attractions we’ve ever experienced. Sorry Gezenthi Travel Agency you will have to up your game if you wish good reviews and happy customers. Not good value for money and we would certainly not recommend to others. Even the photograph for the tour was misleading.

We loved our guide Elcin, she was knowledgeable and laid back. She quickly picked up on our pace and what we liked. We mentioned that we wanted to look at jewlery and Soap and she took us to several shops. I would highly recommend this tour.

Tour guide knows where the good food is at the market. Variety of food tasted. Would like more history or information about food or the owners providing it. More background provided so we didn’t have to ask.

Our guide Ali went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. He catered for our walking pace and even haggled for us in the market. Cant give enough praise for a job well done.

This tour was such a great way to experience the food and culture of Izmir. I wouldn’t have known how to navigate the area without our guide Elcin. Highly recommend this to taste the city!

She was very knowledgeable and took us to great restaurants. We sampled lots of different kinds of food-she even made time for some shopping!

We throughly enjoyed our tour with Elcin, who took us around the market and taught us all about the foods and other tidbits about Turkish culture. We loved hearing the insights of a native with expertise in the area.

The Izmir food tour was a great experience for us. We tried food that we may not have come across if it was not because of tour guide Elcin . Elcin was kind, friendly and knowledgeable. I personally liked the pickle juice that she had us try. Highly recommended

A Well thought out historic city walk and the strategic food sampling stops by Alperene was such a wonderful activity we will never forget. He was so informative , engaging and thoughtful throughout. A fantastic way to take in Izmir , learn the layout of the area and its history and not to mention food stops along the way with a guide so knowledgeable , articulate and easy to relate to and fun to be around . This tour with this guide will not disappoint . Must do!!!!!

I enjoyed our guide. We got to see more of Izmir's market than we did on our own and learned more about the history. We enjoyed the food, but I think "gourmet" in the title is misleading. I would call it a tour of traditional Turkish food.
