DALA wurde ursprünglich von Dr. Erick Komolo, dem kenianischen Anwalt und Social Entrepreneur, gegründet, um in seinem ländlichen Dorf im Südwesten Kenias gegen Jugendarbeitslosigkeit, Schwangerschaften bei Teenagern und Schulabbrecher vorzugehen. Wir fördern einen Teil unserer Gewinne für diese Mission durch MAKLWETA, eine gemeinnützige Stiftung, die Dr. Komolo gegründet hat.

Kibera ist nach Soweto in Südafrika die zweitgrößte informelle Siedlung Afrikas. Mit einer geschätzten Million Einwohnern aus ganz Ostafrika auf einem 2,5 km² großen Grundstück bietet Kibera eine einmalige Gelegenheit, das andere Kenia kennenzulernen, über das weniger geredet wird, das aber vielversprechend ist. Erick, unser Gründer, lebte selbst einige Zeit in Kibera, als er versuchte, beruflich Fuß zu fassen, und viele Verwandte lebten noch dort. In den letzten Jahren haben mehrere prominente internationale Persönlichkeiten und Prominente Kibera besucht, darunter Präsident Obama, Ban Ki Moon (ehemaliger UN-Generalsekretär), Gordon Brown (ehemaliger britischer Premierminister) und Bono, um sich von diesem einzigartigen Siedlungsökosystem zu überzeugen. Sie haben auch die Möglichkeit, verschiedene Projekte der Vereinten Nationen und Nichtregierungsorganisationen zu sehen, die sich unter anderem mit Wohnungsbau (Modernisierung von Slums), Bildung und Gesundheit befassen und derzeit in dem auf Armutsbekämpfung ausgerichteten Slum laufen. A very impressive tour of Kibera. Bramwel was a very honest young man. His English is very good and his commitment to the district where he was born is commendable. It may chafe to book such a tour, but the story must be told through.

We had an very insight filled tour , our guide was Bramwell who was able to explain a lot of things to us as a local who was born in Kibera. He was well known amongst the community and made everything feel as though we weren't intruding. Recommended if you want to see some real life without the rose colored glasses.

Amazing and insightful tour! Guide was a local from the area. He was thorough and kind. A truly unique experience. The people of Kibera were very warm and welcoming. Everyone was saying "Hi" and waving. Got to tour the entire area and learn from the locals. This is a must do if you are in the area.

We had an amazing guide. He was very knowledgeable about the area and had personal connections to the people which allowed us to see into their own lives. Our guide explained each building and what it meant to them as well as cultural norms. Throughout the tour he explained the circumstances or the majority of people living there and reasons that they contributed to live there (things like lack of jobs in the area and little access to sanitary conditions). Definitely a unique experience I would encourage everyone to take part in. •Friendly and informative guide •Interactions with local people
