Fabulous and very informative tour. Highly recommended. Dan and Roger are entertaining and full of first hand experience. Visiting the auction space was a highlight. The market itself is impressive.
Big Beautiful and Very disappointing. What a let down! So here it is; Poor variety, basically if you want fatty tasteless farmed salmon, cooked prawns, and snapper and flathead fillets and masses of deep fried seafood to eat on the terrace then this is the place for you! My experience was very disappointing. Poor range of shellfish Almost no live seafood No smoked fish Poor octopus options No proper deli. Range of cheeses that was poorer than Cole’s or Woolies Overpriced fruit and vege A tiny bakery that was sold out at 10:00 am on a Tuesday No Information Desk to direct you to the seafood you are looking for Staff who had no idea of what was available within the market Totally frustrating experience
Our tour was run by the very knowledgeable Dan. Very informative and a fun tour. So much to see. So much to eat. Loved it
Fabulous tour with our animated guide Dan. We were entertained with amazing stories about the history of the fish markets, the architecture of the new building and how the auction process works. Great value.
Guide was very knowledgeable, auction process and market floor were thoroughly and passionately explained. Unfortunately there was very little about the architecture and construction of the new fish market
Dan was our tour guide and he was excellent. Very informative and well worth the walk to the Fish Market on a VERY hot day! Amazing work cleaning out the bay and trying to take care of the environment. Our comment to the Fish Market - not about the tour - but a general comment. Solar panels on the roof, thinking about fish waste and putting it to good use etc etc BUT your vendors are using sooo much plastic, it's contrary to what you are trying to achieve. Perhaps a condition of having an outlet inside the Market should be compostable, recylcable materials for all food sold. Thanks again Dan, you were great.
I had hoped to get an insight into the new fish markets but the information supplied was very ordinary, you could easily glean it online anywhere. Standing in 30+ degree heat on concrete for 40 minutes also wasn't ideal - at one point the guide said 'aren't there any questions?' I think everyone was thinking please get us out of this hell. We finally were taken inside to the auction area - at least this was cool - and suddenly questions flowed from everyone. But then back into the melee of the retail area right on lunchtime. The plan needs reshaping, the balance of the information definitely needs reshaping. And it was expensive. I expected a lot better.
My guide was very passionate and informative! The Fish Market is AMAZING! Learning the history of both the former and new market was very interesting, and of course I splurged on a delicious fish lunch afterwards.
Very informative session, history of two old sites ,what led to the construction of new site, what improvements are made for sustainable fishing. History of aboriginals way of doing the things, how those practices are still relevant today, Dane , our tour guide was very knowledgeable .
Learned so much about the history of the market, auction and the gorgeous new building. Dan guided us through and let us loose to have amazing choices for lunch!
