Reisen Sie durch die abgelegene Landschaft Ostislands entlang des wunderschönen Jökuldalur-Tals und halten Sie am malerischen Rjúkandi-Wasserfall an, bevor Sie weiter zum Stuðlagil-Canyon fahren – einer der beeindruckendsten Basaltformationen Islands. Auf dieser Tour erkunden wir die Ostseite des Canyons und wandern ca. 2,5 km pro Weg (insgesamt 5 km) auf einem meist flachen Schotterweg. Entlang der Strecke gibt es zwei graduelle Steigungen/Abfälle, die sich für einige Teilnehmer leicht herausfordernd anfühlen können, aber sie sind in der Regel einfach und für jeden in normalem Gehzustand zu bewältigen. Wenn Sie den Schluchtboden erreichen, können Sie die dramatischen Basaltsäulen und den Gletscherfluss hautnah erleben – ein wirklich unvergessliches Highlight für Naturliebhaber und Fotografen. Nach der Wanderung entspannen wir im wohltuenden Erdwärmewasser der Vök Bäder.

Wir beginnen die Tour mit einer Fahrt zum Rjúkandi-Wasserfall im Jökuldalur-Tal, wo wir einen kurzen Stopp einlegen und einen einfachen und zugänglichen Spaziergang zum Wasserfall unternehmen. Von dort aus machen wir uns auf den Weg zum Stuðlagil Canyon.
Eingebettet tief in die abgelegene isländische Landschaft ist der Stuðlagil Canyon wirklich ein bemerkenswertes Reiseziel. Auf der Ostseite des Flusses Jökulsá geht es eine leichte/mittelschwere halbe Stunde zu Fuß zur Schlucht des Canyons. Die Gesamtzeit am Stuðlagil Canyon beträgt ca. 2-3 Stunden, was uns viel Zeit gibt, die Landschaft zu erkunden und zu genießen. Den größten Teil des Sommers ist das Wasser im Fluss klar mit türkisfarbener Farbe, aber Anfang August geht der Fluss in graues Gletscherwasser über.
Nachdem wir alles genossen haben, was der Stuðlagil Canyon zu bieten hat, machen wir uns auf den Weg zur geothermischen Oase der Vök-Bäder. Vök bietet Islands erste schwimmende Pools im Urriðavatn-See, einen großen Pool mit eigener Bar, Dampfbad, Kaltnebeltunnel, hochwertige Gästeeinrichtungen und das Restaurant Vök Bistro mit Blick auf den See und die Pools mit einer auf Nachhaltigkeit und Regionalität basierenden Speisekarte Zutaten.

Shout out to our guide Stephan who took us through the region in rainy, Icelandic weather. In spite of the lack of sun, we had the best time exploring the canyon and the Vok spas. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone. The walk was paved and relatively easy but a bit more challenging to get into the canyon (steeper and more rocks) so unless you are sure of your footing I would advise staying on the path! Bring lots of water proof layers if it rains, it was a very cold and wet walk back!

5 stars!!! This was one of our families favorite excursions! We enjoyed the small group atmosphere and had a great time with the other participants. The waterfall was beautiful, but the canyon hike on the east side was more than we could’ve imagined. Pictures do not do it justice! We hiked down to the water and even onto a few rock formations in the center. To top it off we had an amazing guide Tiina, who was not only informative, but she was funny and personable. We loved her jokes! As a local, she was able to answer all of our crazy questions - awesome tour guide. To top off an amazing day we went to the Vok baths where we were able to relax in three different temperature pools as well as jump into the lake. We enjoyed local beer and the kids had slushies while relaxing - truly an amazing day.

We took this shore excursion during our week-long cruise around Iceland, and it ended up being one of our absolute favorite stops of the entire trip! We had a blast from start to finish. A massive shoutout to our guide, Tina! Because she grew up in the area, she was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so many great local insights. On top of that, she just had a wonderful, warm personality that made the whole day so much fun. The hike to Stuðlagil Canyon was absolutely stunning. The basalt rock formations are truly one-of-a-kind, and it was fascinating to hear the story behind how the canyon was discovered. After the hike, Vök Baths was the perfect way to unwind. We loved it here because it had a completely different vibe than the Blue Lagoon. The pools integrate beautifully into the natural surroundings, and having the ability to jump straight into the lake (which was a brisk 15°C!) as a cold plunge was incredibly unique and exhilarating. Just a quick note for future travelers: make sure you have the baseline physical ability to do the canyon hike. If you are up for the walk, this is an incredible excursion that you absolutely must add to your list. Highly recommend!

Spectacular canyon with magnificent geological formations. We were so glad we had chosen a small group tour for this location because all the big bus tours were on the other side of the river and had a limited view of the canyon. Plenty of time to walk to the end and back, as well as time for photos and just to enjoy the beauty

All aspects were well done, communication, meeting, information about each attraction, tour guide was very in tune with the group
Fantastic trip, the bus ride was approximately an hour and a half each way. The volk baths were wonderful and there were no crowds at all. The canyon hike is very doable for somebody with reasonable walking fitness. The beginning is a 35 or so minute walk into the canyon which is beautiful, if you wanna really get down into the canyon, it is a little treacherous and you need to be a little bit more fit for that portion. Overall amazing !
