This is a must for anyone visiting Botswana who wants to understand the people as well as experience the wonderful wildlife. Kay introduced us to the culture, history, and the 18 distinctly different tribes of Botswana. We sat with Onalenna and Moengere, master basket weavers, at their home in Maun. We visited the town market filled with daily wares and friendly faces. We finished with a sampling of local cuisine at Planet Culture Café where the owner carries on his grandmother's recipes. On safari in Botswana, you immerse in the incredible wildlife, expansive wilderness, and the vibrations of uninterrupted nature, but the experience is incomplete without spending time among the people of Botswana.
I really enjoyed this tour with Kay, she told us so many interesting stories about the town if Maun and the people of Botswana. Stories I have not heard within my two weeks of travelling in Botswana before. She showed us several handcraft production sites where we had the chance to see how e.g. baskets were produced while we had a chance to chat with the ladies producing handcrafts. Thank Kay, it was a wonderful experience.
This tour was amazing! It gave me real insight in local live and customs. Kaye, the tour guide, is very knowledgeable and friendly. I really appreciated these 3 hours. It was a perfect addition to my safari tours.
An absolutely fantastic tour ps led with fascinating information about Botswana culture and traditions - including the negotiation for bride price even modern women like our guide and business owner Kay will do- where the uncles from prospective bride and grooms meet to negotiate bride price (valued in cattle) to the three months isolation a new mother and baby take part in to the two types of justice - social justice is administered within a day by the chief of one of 28 principalities and uses communication, cooperation and forgiveness to restore harmony - and civil law involving police and courts. We learned to weave baskets with local tribe sisters, ate local traditional food, visited a street artist and a local market and more. I highly recommend this tour- even if you only have a few hours in Maun Kay and her team will collect you at the airport. Support this entrepreneur and the local craftspeople and businesses she features!
Hi Cheryl, Wow - Thank you for the beautiful review and Thank you for joining us. Enjoy the rest of your holiday :) From Kay and Travel for Impact Team.
Kay, the guide, and the men and women we met made this tour wonderful! Learning about the many ethnic groups in Maun and their relationship to each other, gave us a new appreciation for the country. Most impressive was learning about how they care for a mother after she has given birth. You'll have to go on the tour to learn about that! We also learned about the traditions the couple must go through before marriage. I loved meeting the artisans at the many tour stops, especially the women who make the baskets. Each basket has an extraordinary story (could be about zebras, turtles, giraffes, etc). The sisters make the best baskets in the country in my opinion. I wish I would have purchased more. I even tried my hand at making a basket but was a total failure, lol. Lunch was delish at Planet Culture. Lastly, I enjoyed learning about the meaning of a person's name. It often had a long story behind it which gave me an even deeper understanding of the culture.
Hi Pauline- Thank you for such an amazing review and for joining us on the tour, it was delightful having you. From Kay and The Travel for Impact Team
This was a last minute booking because of a delay in our departure from Botswana to Cape Town; it ended up being the best thing that could have happened! Such a worthwhile and informative tour. And fun! We had a great time and purchased some wonderful gifts! Of course, we loved the fact that Travel for Impact is making such a positive difference in the community!!
Thank you so much for such a great review, I am really grateful you came with us on the Maun Immersive Tour...and thank you for the pictures we love them. From Kay and the Travel for Impact Team!
We stopped over in Maun in order to visit Elephant Havens. Our travel agent arranged this tour for the afternoon before. What at first seemed to be a dusty stopover from the airport soon became a hub of Botswana culture as Kay and her fellow guide introduced us to the kgotla, car wash, local artists and BOTS Quality Baskets. We learned about the role that traditional chiefs play in Botswana's government, customs related to marriage, traditional tools and visited the marketplace. This tour certainly enriched our experience of wonderful Botswana!

Enjoyed visiting lively old mall and market place, sampling traditional food at plant culture cafe. Food was really good. Liked trying basket weaving and enjoyed learning about the history of maun. Guide Kay and van driver were great. Left my mug in van and they tracked me down to return it to me.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write your wonderful review. It is very much appreciated and we're so happy you enjoyed your tour. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your visit to Botswana too. Please let your friends and family know about us if they're planning a visit to Maun! Thanks again, Kay and the Travel for Impact Team
Great time, very pleasant and informative in Maun, discovering lively and charming places, unexpected ones like markets, a corner of nature and walking (I saw my first crocodile 'outside of a safari' there), or visiting BOTS QUALITY BASKETS with their incredible traditional baskets. Our guide had many anecdotes, and we learned a lot about the life and customs of the locals at every moment of the walk. Very nice, it's really worth it!
We were bright-eyed with joy exploring a layer behind the scenes of Maun. What looks like a dusty donkey town from the skies, it was wonderful to be immersed in the hustle and bustle of Maun.
