Unser Abenteuer beginnt mit einem kurzen Halt in einer beliebten Käseboutique in der Nachbarschaft. Die Regale sind mit mehr als 50 handwerklichen Sorten gesäumt, jede mit Sorgfalt gefertigt und trägt ihre eigene Geschichte. Wir wählen eine speziell kuratierte Auswahl aus, die wir später genießen können – einige Geschmacksrichtungen sind es wert, Vorfreude darauf zu entwickeln.
Unser anschließender Halt führt uns zu einer modernen Bar, die für ihr junges und erfinderisches kulinarisches Team gefeiert wird. Hier öffnen wir endlich die Käse-Verkostungsbox und kombinieren sie mit einem erfrischenden Glas Naturwein. Danach kommt einer der typischen Pintxos von San Sebastián – lebendig, ausdrucksstark und unverkennbar baskisch, der traditionelle Wurzeln mit moderner Kreativität verbindet.
An einem der legendären Pintxo-Spots der Stadt erhalten zeitlose baskische Grundnahrungsmittel eine neue Perspektive. Bekannte Zutaten werden durch Experten und fantasievolle Wendungen verwandelt. Vor der Tür flüstern die engen Altstadtgassen Geschichten von gastronomischen Wegbereitern und Generationen von Köchen, die diese kulinarische Hauptstadt prägten.
Versteckt in einer über ein Jahrhundert alten historischen Vinothek machen wir eine Pause, um Patxaran zu trinken, den geschätzten regionalen Likör mit Schlehenbeeren. Geschmeidig, sanft süß und tief mit der baskischen Identität verbunden – vor allem in Kombination mit einer zarten lokalen Süßigkeit. Es ist ein ruhiger, bedeutsamer Moment voller Tradition.

We sampled Basque cheese, wines, pintxos and desserts over 3 hours with our excellent guide Malena. Walked all over San Sebastián to 6 food places while Malena pointed out several other details about the city and Basque culture. We enjoyed a variety of seafood, egg, pork, beef and vegetarian pintxos, along with local wines, vermouth and cider. Malena was very mindful of our vegetarian/pescatarian friends’ food restrictions as well as our preferences of the type of pintxos. Overall a great experience.

San Sebastián did not disappoint. It’s a beautiful city, very walkable and the food options are outstanding. The Pinxtos are out of this world and there are so many options to try. Beef cheek, Pork ribs, Seafood and vegetarian dishes. The beach’s are immaculate and you can hire surf gear at reasonable rates. It’s worth taking the open top bus tour which you can hop on and off. And the Funicular destination is a must, the view from the top of the mountain is breathtaking. The city is also excellent value for money and the people are always friendly. We will definitely visit again.
We enjoyed every bit of this tour, and our host was knowledgeable and did everything in our power to make it so enjoyable. The highlight was the pulled pork sandwich!
Thoroughly recommend this tour. Martin was an excellent guide with great knowledge of the local food and culture. Doing it on our first night was perfect. It gave us confidence navigating pintxos bars, plus we got to try other regional specialities we wouldn’t have found on our own. A great mix of food, insight, and orientation - the ideal start to a visit in San Sebastián.
We completely agree that doing a food tour on the first evening in San Sebastián is one of the best ways to start a trip :) Once you understand the rhythm of the pintxos bars and the local food culture, the whole city opens up in a different way. Our guide Mattin was wonderful, friendly, close and very knowledgeable. He took us to places outside the tourist circuit, places that if you don't know them as local, you wouldn't discover. The best thing was that we tried pintxos made at the moment, none of the typical bar full of pintxos that look with the naked eye

Ernes was amazing! We tried many different pintxos and wines and had impromptu stops along the tour..We also learned all about San Sebastián and the Basque culture… A great way to spend 3 hours.. highly recommend!
From the moment the tour began, it was clear that this was not just about food but an immersive experience into the Basque culture, guided by experts with a true passion for their city's gastronomy. The selection of pintxos and wine pairings was exceptional. The guides were truly knowledgeable, not just about the food/wine but also about San Sebastian's history and culinary traditions. Perhaps the most exciting part was the discovery of hidden gems-places we might have walked past without a second glance. These places delivered some of the most amazing pintxos we had eaten. Overall, this tour is a MUST for food lovers! It strikes the perfect balance between a little history and indulgence, offering a deeper appreciation of Basque cuisine while treating us all to an unforgettable evening. Oh wait...did I forget to mention the final stop...a chocolate stop. Not just any chocolate...the best! This tour is highly recommended.
