The trip was a shambles start to finish, 40mins late leaving, little information given about the trip. The boat skipper crashed the boat twice and also flooded the engine. Life jackets given out but with no instruction. I had to assist several passengers. The info / pictures in the information are not accurate, it is not proper snorkelling, visibility is low due to the seagrass and you are in approx 2 foot of water, with little to no help for people. I think it’s highly unlikely anyone ever sees a seahorse on this trip. There were quite a few families disappointed. Save your money and get the ferry to the islands take your own snorkel / goggles you may get lucky!
I want to thank the skipper who guided us on this tour of sea horses, I must emphasize that the girl from the ticket shop was also a dear, in the face of so much “chaos” managed to organize the whole malt, I apologize for us tourists (some) who sometimes do not understand how things work and think that the girl was to blame for everything and were like hungry dolphins in the frame of tuna, force to the whole team! Everything's getting better!
Nice experience. They are so fragile, the little seahorses. It is imperative that sailboats no longer anchor in that area, which did not seem to be the case.
Basically a nice tour, had it not been for the many Portuguese locals who had anchored in the seahorse sanctuary and stirred up the water with their bottoms, so that not even the guide managed to find any in the murky water. An outrage! Even after his complaint that only the tour boat was allowed to anchor there, there was no reaction from the locals! I hope that action will be taken against this! But there were sea cucumbers and octopuses to admire. A wetsuit is recommended; we were there at the beginning of August and the water without at least a shorty was way too cold for the kids to stay in for long. The tour was even extended in the hope that more could be seen if the sediments settled. I really hope that the pressure from tourism and the interest in the seahorses is high enough to better protect this sanctuary.
First of all, we boarded half an hour late. We had booked an English-speaking guide. The "guide" could not speak English and was also not very motivated otherwise. We saw a disappointing 2 seahorses.
We had a fantastic trip! The guide was super. Learned a lot about Portugese Nature. We found seahorses, seastars and different nice fishes.
Nice experience, only the boat trip is fun. And if you still see seahorses while snorkeling, it's totally great. We had an experienced guide and experienced skipper.
The tour was amazing. It was basic and calm. - they take you to the seahorse location with a boat (right off the shore of Culatra Island) - they give you with basic info about seahorses - they provide you with snorkeling equipment (next time I would definitely take a wetsuit as the water was COLD) - they find seahorses that you can observe - after a while they take you back Everyone in our group saw at least a few seahorses. I was really happy and will go again when I visit Algarve again.

We had this tour today and I have to say: Absolutely fantastic. My daughter (8 years old) and me saw about five or six seahorses, which is more than I expected before. The snorkeling place was beautiful and clean and a perfect spot especially for snorkeling beginners and kids. The tour guide was obviously very engaged to find the cute animals and show them to us. He especially helped my daughter, held her under water, so that she could take pictures of the seahorses. After the tour, my daughter told me that this one of her best moments in life. I think, she will remember this day even in 30 or 40 years. Thank you! :)
