Der Schrein liegt im Grünen ca. 2:00 h von der Stadt São Paulo mit dem Auto erreichbar. Um jedes Jahr etwa 12 Millionen Pilger willkommen zu heißen, bietet das Heiligtum seinen Gläubigen eine Fläche von mehr als 1,3 Millionen Quadratmetern mit einer bebauten Fläche von etwa 143 Tausend Quadratmetern mit einer Vielzahl von Attraktionen. Der Hauptgrund für die Besuche sind religiöser Natur. Besuchen Sie in Begleitung eines Führers das Nationalheiligtum, gehen Sie am Bildnis Unserer Lieben Frau Aparecida vorbei und tauschen Sie Blicke mit ihr aus, nehmen Sie an einer Heiligen Messe teil, stellen Sie Bitten, danken Sie erhaltene Gnaden, zahlen Sie Versprechen, schätzen Sie Handwerkskunst, majestätische Formen und Buntglasfenster .

Nach der Abholung von Ihrem Hotel in São Paulo fahren wir 2 Stunden zum Schrein in der Stadt Aparecida im Bundesstaat São Paulo.
Der Tempel, der größte des Landes, beherbergt das 36 cm große Bildnis Unserer Lieben Frau von Aparecida. Das Heiligtum ist das größte der Welt, das Mather Mary gewidmet ist. Jährlich passieren 12 Millionen Pilger es und machen es zum wichtigsten Wallfahrtsort in Brasilien. Neben dem Bild hat die Basilika die Kapelle der Kerzen, in der die Gläubigen beten. Jedes Wochenende werden bis zu 10 Tonnen Paraffin vom Platz entfernt. In der Halle der Verheißungen befinden sich Tausende von Objekten und Fotografien von Anhängern, die von Wundern berichtet haben.
Steg des Glaubens Das Bauwerk ist 392 Meter lang und erreicht an seinem höchsten Punkt eine Höhe von 35 Metern, verbindet das Nationalheiligtum von Aparecida mit der Alten Basilika. Die Fußgängerbrücke ist ein traditioneller Wallfahrtsort für Pilger, die viele auf den Knien überqueren, um die Versprechen Unserer Lieben Frau von Aparecida zu erfüllen. Die Fußgängerbrücke bietet auch einen Panoramablick auf den größten katholischen Tempel Brasiliens.
Alte Basilika Die als Alte Basilika bekannte Kirche befindet sich in der Innenstadt der Stadt Aparecida und war vor dem Bau des Nationalen Heiligtums ein Treffpunkt für Pilger. Die beiden Kirchen sind heute durch den Steg des Glaubens verbunden. Mit den 1845 begonnenen und 1888 abgeschlossenen Arbeiten erhielt die Kirche 1908 vom Vatikan den Titel der Basilika von Aparecida. 1982 wurde sie als Denkmal von historischem, religiösem und architektonischem Interesse aufgeführt.
Die Seilbahn verbindet das National Sanctuary mit dem Hügel des Santo Cruzeiro. Durchschnittlich fahren etwa 2.000 Besucher pro Tag mit dem Auto. Der von der Seilbahn zurückgelegte Abschnitt ist ungefähr 1.170 Meter lang und 115 Meter hoch und führt über eine große Autobahn in der Nähe.
Der Hügel von Santo Cruzeiro ist mit der Seilbahn erreichbar. Gläubige besteigen auch den Morro do Cruzeiro in einer Prozession, um an den Kreuzweg zu gedenken. Entlang des Weges gibt es 14 Stationen, die an die letzten Schritte von Jesus Christus zum Kalvarienberg erinnern. Der Hügel ist 900 Meter lang und 83 Meter hoch.

Our visit to Yala National Park was one of the highlights of our Sri Lanka trip! The park is absolutely stunning — a perfect blend of forest, grasslands, and lagoons that are home to an incredible variety of wildlife. We were lucky enough to spot leopards, elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, and countless species of birds — all within just a few hours. Our safari guide was extremely knowledgeable and respectful of the animals, keeping a safe distance while ensuring we didn’t miss any great sightings. The early morning drive was magical — golden sunrise, fresh air, and the sound of nature all around. The park is well-managed, and you can feel the effort to protect the natural environment. If you visit, I highly recommend booking a private jeep for a more peaceful experience and starting your safari early to catch the wildlife at its most active. Overall, Yala is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves nature, photography, or adventure. It truly captures the wild spirit of Sri Lanka!
Excursion to the Jewel in the Crown Having recently returned from an organised trip to Rajasthan, Northern India, we feel compelled to write a glowing review about our experience!! From the outset-when we were greeted in the arrivals hall at New Delhi International Airport by the lovely Kusum Rana-ever professional and efficient-to our departure thirteen days later. Everything operated seamlessly, highly efficiently and on time! We are ever so grateful to our driver Aashish Gandi for his attention to detail, keeping the transport car spotlessly clean as he drove us from Delhi to Agra, onwards to Jaipur, to Jodhpur and finally to Udaipur. We were kept entertained en route as he regaled us with facts & information about each of the cities which we visited. Our guide Singit? in Delhi was excellent-very professional and patient with us as we stopped to take photos-a lot! When in Agra our guide Naeem Ullah was sublime!! His photography skills are like watching an artist at work! Thanks to Naeem's attention to detail, both Dee & I now own THE most amazing photos of the glorious Taj Mahal at both sunrise and sunset! Naeem's knowledge of local history and politics makes him an extraordinary guide! Next to Jaipur-our wonderful guide Singh was a fountain of knowledge on Temples, museums and the Observatory-throughout, he was professional, good-humoured and highly knowledgeable! In Jodhpur, we were educated by the highly professional Hari Shankar Jangid-tour guide extraordinaire! Bhupendra Singh Hada in Udaipur was so charming & suave, paying great attention to detail as he gave us a fabulous introduction to lovely Udaipur with an evening boat ride on the lake-such magnificent views! Upon arrival at each of our destinations, we were greeted with the utmost of professionalism and in a timely fashion by yet another highly trained Trans India Representative. The Balkans are not to be missed. The Old Forts, & Walled Cities to Caves, Lakes & streams, and great Wine. We used Unforgettable Tours. They designed both the sea and land portions of our vacation. The yacht was a gorgeous 170-foot motor yacht, allowing a max of 36 guests. We saw the Croatian coast and numerous islands. We swam every day in the clearest Adriatic Sea, ate fine food on board, along with some live entertainment. The best part was being close to and getting to know the guests, unlike large boats. Our land portion was with a private car and driver. We would be taken and dropped off to a local private tour guide. No groups, just my wife and myself. Never rushed, always able to hear and understand the guide. Every tour was wonderful and all in different ways, so no day was ever boring or repetitive.

Our day visit to Aitutaki, Cook Islands, in March 2025 was truly amazing! A must visit to be done at least once in a life- time, particularly if visiting Raro! Starting with the morning pick up shuttle bus from the Edgewater resort to the Rarotonga airport and then onto the hours' round tour of the Aitutaki island and next, the hop- on hop - off visits to the various islands cruising inside the spacious Waka ferry boat which included a scrumptious buffet lunch was truly a fabulous experience! There were 3 of us staying a total of 10 days. Lindsey and Jay helped us set up with 2 units the first few days then had us set up for the 2 bedroom for the last week. Plenty of comfort, space and relaxation. Jay provided us with several options on getting to the island well before we needed to travel so we could make the best choice for us. We ended up using an 8 passenger plane and a taxi from there to CoCo Loco. The instructions provided ahead of time made it super easy! The trip was exceptional and made even better by having Lindsey and Jay as our hosts.

Our stay at the Americus Garden Inn was an amazing highlight of our 3 wk trip to the Southeast. We had been looking for an interesting place to spend a few days between our bike tour from Charleston to Savannah and visiting friends in Atlanta. We couldn't have found a more wonderful place! Susan & Kim handle all aspects of the best Bed & Breakfast that we have ever visited. They made us feel special and so very comfortable in their beautiful antebellum home. Attention to detail was clear from the decor to the cleanliness to the availability of anything we might want or need. The three course breakfasts were delicious, freshly made from scratch to our dietary preferences. Susan is an amazing cook and an artist with the beautiful presentation of each dish. Our only regret is that we live so far away in Portland OR and we can only hope that we get another opportunity to stay with Susan & Kim in the future.
