Beautiful Castle

First castle I visited so I was very excited and was not disappointed. The castle was beautiful and well maintained. The guide was amazing. I was the only English speaking one the group, which was just a few of us but she made sure to do all the explaining in English as well as German. The audio set was nice to, lots see and explore. A family still lives there so you cannot see every single area, but it is definitely worth visiting. To see and hear how they lived in that era is amazing

Beautiful castle from the outside - but a claustrophobic experience

Really disappointing experience. The castle itself is beautiful, but they do the tour in too large groups (more than 30 people), and the whole tour is done with an audio guide anyway. The person who follows the group around aims only to show the way. She locks the many people inside the small rooms so you can't get out. Everyone is forced to stay too long in each of the small dark rooms until the guide assesses that everyone has heard the mandatory audio guide done. Price 18 Euro per man. Too expensive compared to yield. We felt like cattle on the tour around the castle. It is clear that they want to make money and therefore make too large groups, for which there is no room at all in the different rooms.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry that you experienced your visit in this way. Our group sizes are not determined simply by the aim of accommodating as many visitors as possible. The tour through Tratzberg Castle follows a carefully organised route through nine historic rooms and lasts exactly one hour. Tours start every 20 minutes, which helps us keep waiting times as short as possible, particularly on busy days. Our castle guides also do considerably more than simply show the way. They accompany the group throughout the entire tour, provide additional information and are always available to answer questions. The audio experience itself was professionally developed with actors giving voice to historical personalities who once lived at Tratzberg Castle. This allows us to offer the tour in nine languages while providing every visitor with the same extensive historical content. The group remains together in each room because Tratzberg Castle is still privately owned and inhabited by the owner's family. The historic rooms retain their original furnishings, artworks and objects, many of which are not protected behind glass. For their preservation and security, visitors therefore cannot move independently between the rooms. We regret that the group size during your visit made you feel uncomfortable. Our intention is certainly not to rush as many people as possible through the castle, but to make this exceptionally well-preserved private residence accessible to visitors while at the same time protecting its original interiors. Kind regards, The Tratzberg Castle Team

Different than expected!

There were sufficient parking options available. The ride on the sightseeing train for 2 euros is fine. Purchasing tickets on-site was not a problem, as there were hardly any visitors present even on the weekend. The tour began after a wait of ten minutes. The nine presented rooms are appealing and equipped with original materials. One aspect that was perceived as less than optimal was the necessity of a guided tour, as access to the rooms would not have been possible otherwise. The duration of stay in each room was limited to a maximum of five to six minutes, which made free exploration of the rooms and photography difficult. The information from the audio guide was very superficial and far too long; the speed could not be adjusted to be faster.

Incredible original furnishings from the 1500s!

The family that owns this castle lives on the ground floor, and the upper floor is open to be viewed. The interior is quite amazing, especially the furniture. There is an audio tour with excellent explanations of each room. We were astonished at the large number of furniture and decorations from the 1500s that have survived all these years. The castle is up a long windy road from the parking area. They offer a train every 20 minutes that runs up and down the hill for 2 euros each way that made the transit so much easier.

A unique Gothic Renaissance Castle

Castle is a real gem! We were fortunate that it opened just before we left Tirol (it’s closed during the winter season). A Gothic Castle preserved in great state. Beautiful wood work and a very good audio guide right on your phone. Walking in the castle accompanied by a guide that adds just the right human touch and makes the tour full and interesting. Climbing to the castle from the parking can be done by foot (about 15 min walk uphill) or with a nice little train (the kids liked it) - we went up with the train and down by foot. Kids also wanted a VR experience - not sure its worth the price.

Thank you very much for your wonderful and detailed feedback! Schloss Tratzberg is indeed a rare example of a largely original Gothic–Renaissance castle, and preserving this authenticity is at the heart of what we do. We’re especially glad you enjoyed the combination of the audio guide and the personal touch from our team on site – that balance is very important to us. It’s great to hear that you made use of both the little train and the walking path, and that even the younger guests enjoyed the experience. We hope to welcome you again on your next visit to Tirol! Kind regards, The Tratzberg castle Team

Worth seeing castle with great audio tours – even for children!

Tratzberg Castle is definitely worth a visit. Particularly impressive are the lovingly designed audio tours, which give exciting insights into the history of the castle. There is even a special variation for children, which is really well done and makes the tour interesting and entertaining for the little ones. A beautifully preserved castle with an exciting view into the past – absolutely recommended!

Kratzberg Castle

Beautifully renovated castle with furnished rooms. Had booked online visit + VR, is apparently necessary. VR is fun but the first sentences during the tour (using a listening device, also in Dutch) were the same as with the VR. Children are told a fairy tale story. After the visit you must leave the castle immediately. Parking is payable. Footpath to the castle is very steep, there is a train but that is also payable). Have done the way back via the regular road to the parking lot. Loved it but all those extra costs bothered me because the entrance is not free anyway.

A castle worth seeing

An absolutely lovingly restored castle A gem of the special class I know the castle from the 80s and am overwhelmed what beauty was on display here The tour is very informative and very well structured and absolutely worth the entrance fee. Thanks to the owner family for this tireless work to preserve this castle

Interesting castle with great guide!

Beautiful, historic 500-year-old castle, where part can only be visited as part of a guided tour. The premises are fantastically equipped. Our guide was very open-minded and his remarks were very interesting. He addressed all the questions asked in detail. You can reach the top with a small train or on foot. Parking is available. A worthwhile excursion.
