Die Insel Saona ist nicht nur ein wunderschöner Ort inmitten der Natur, sondern blickt auch auf eine sehr interessante Geschichte zurück. Für die Taínos, die Ureinwohner der Insel, hieß sie Adamanay. Erst später, mit der Ankunft von Christoph Kolumbus, wurde die Insel zu Ehren von Michele da Cuneo, der aus der italienischen Stadt Savona stammte, in Bella Savonesa umbenannt. Hier befindet sich auch die berühmte Höhle Cotubanamá, in der der gleichnamige Häuptling der Taíno hingerichtet wurde. Heute ist es ein weiteres touristisches Zentrum der Insel. Saona ist eine Filminsel – und zwar im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes. Einige Szenen aus dem Film „Fluch der Karibik“ wurden hier gedreht. Doch wenn es einen Film gibt, der die Insel Saona für immer geprägt hat, dann war es „Die blaue Lagune“, auf Spanisch „El Lago Azul“. Da der Film in dieser Landschaft gedreht wurde, haben Tausende von Menschen die Insel Saona auf der großen Leinwand entdeckt.

Wir holen Sie in Ihrem Hotel ab. Nach der Abholung steigen Sie in einen Bus, der Sie nach Bayahibe bringt, wo Sie das Boot zur Insel nehmen. Auf halber Strecke halten wir am Naturpool, wo Sie sich erfrischen und baden können. Dort verbringen Sie etwa eine Stunde. Nach Ablauf dieser Stunde fahren wir weiter zur Insel Saona, wo Sie etwa drei bis vier Stunden verbringen werden. Auf der Insel Saona gibt es ein Buffet, an dem Sie kostenlos essen können.

Absolute paradise I loved it! I felt like I was in another world! Bring water because it’s beach all day!

I messaged them a few days before and they said they could pick me up. The day before the trip they still hadn't texted me details so I texted them that morning. They said they would get to me that afternoon. 6pm comes around and no message. The driver finally got in touch around 9pm and I had to arrange my own transportation. They said to meet at 9:45 but they didn't leave the dock until 11am. The tour website said we'd be at the natural pool for an hour and the island for 2-3 when in reality we were at the natural pool for 30 minutes and the beach for about an hour and half (30 minutes to eat). It took about an hour and a half to get to the pool and another 45 minutes to Soana. The island was beautiful but the ocean was limited because there were so many boats docked in the water. The buffet was ok at best. The unlimited drinks included cheap rum and coca cola. On the island you paid $10 USD for a pina colada. I'd say it wasn't worth the experience.

TUI own with private beach. The snorkeling was right by the harbor saw no fish or other animals. The natural pool was nice but very crowded and cloudy water saw the starfish when we left the area. Beach nice on Saona Unfortunately no fish or animals here at snorkeling. We believed/hoped for this. Heard there are better trips if you want to snorkel afterwards

Not recommended! The tour operator made sure to stress to meet the driver at 7:30am and Do Not be late, only for the driver Pedro to arrive 20+ minutes late. Instructions were only given in Spanish, although the booking stated an English guide, from the driver at pick up to the guide on the catamaran it was all Spanish. Raphael was one of the guides who spoke English, when the catamaran tour guide gave instruction in Spanish, Raphael sat in the back of the catamaran on his phone, he didn't bother to translate anything. Raphael only translated when asked, English passengers were very much an after thought. All of the island history facts where given in Spanish only. I would not recommend this tour for English speakers. The lunch was advertised as a traditional Dominican lunch, it was spaghetti, penne pasta, rice and grilled chicken, not what I would consider traditional. Lastly the tour ran way longer than scheduled, this tour is advertised as approximately 8hrs, we left at 7:55am and did not arrive back at the hotel until 7:30pm, almost 12 hours.

If you want a nice day at the beach do NOT book this excursion. If you want to spend your day sitting in a mini bus this is the day for you. Advertised as an 8 hour excursion. We spent 11 hours in total and only 2.5 of them at the beach. Got to see four parking lots and changed buses 5 times. The boss of the drivers yelled at me when we were left by ourselves standing in a parking lot and I inquired how much longer it would be. Seriously the worst vacation experience ever!
Danny boy was a great guide. Loved that they had a professional photographer there to capture all the moments. Went on a good day with the sun shining and light winds.

Entertaining boat ride (multiple changes of boat s each way). There was use of a ladder to get into the water and out. I am a very large woman and was worried that there would be difficulty using a ladder than a walk into or across option for boarding. Fortunately, the ladders were not just vertical, they were more like metal steps and there were rails. There was an opportunity to go into the water from the boat but I chose not to do that as a couple of people seemed to struggle on the bottom steps when not touching the sand. Overall, good experience, loud but energetic music , dancing crew and great memories! Please keep in mind that these tours are compiled of many steps and pieces. My husband calls it “organized chaos.”. You may be picked up by one bus then be sent off on another bus. It may seem a little scary or sketchy at first, but it really is the Dominican way. If you have ever traveled to Thailand, the Middle East, China, or several other touristy places which have local populations dependent on bartering for services. Recommendations: bring lots of sunscreen, bring hand sanitizer, always have some toilet tissue with you & a small bottle of liquid soap or soap sheets.
Fabulous day out and not in any way marred by adverse weather conditions. Beautiful natural pool, stunning island and great service from everyone involved. Would highly recommend this trip.
