Der Sanjay Gandhi National Park ist ein 87 km2 großes Schutzgebiet in Mumbai, Bundesstaat Maharashtra in Indien. Es wurde 1996 mit Hauptsitz in Borivali gegründet. Es ist bemerkenswert als einer der wichtigsten Nationalparks innerhalb einer Metropolengrenze und einer der meistbesuchten Parks der Welt.
Die Kanheri-Höhlen in der Mitte des Parks waren ein wichtiges buddhistisches Lernzentrum und ein Wallfahrtsort, der zwischen dem 9. und 1. Jahrhundert v. Chr. Von buddhistischen Mönchen gestaltet wurde. Sie wurden aus einem massiven Basaltfelsen gemeißelt.
Trimurti-Tempel Im Wald gibt es einen berühmten Jain-Tempel namens Trimurti (was "drei Idole" bedeutet) oder Trimurti Digambar Jain Mandir. Dieser Tempel wird häufig von der Digambar-Sekte der Jain-Gemeinde besucht. Es hat drei große Idole von Lord Adinath und seinen beiden Söhnen Lord Bahubali und Lord Bharata.

Very pricey for what the tour offers. Caves were nice to see and get history behind them however paying 258 USD was not worth the experience. Your guides were nice though

We had a layover in Mumbai so booked this tour for the afternoon and we were not disappointed. Good communication from the tour operator and Hardik who picked us up with a driver from the airport and took us to the park. On arrival we met with Kishor who was our guide for the park. Kishor was very passionate and knowledgeable about the park and the caves - he bought the whole history to life and we had Buddhist meditation in the caves, as we had them to ourselves. We've booked the tour to the SGNP, including the caves, lions area and Vipassana pagoda. Everything was tailored to our needs and we had a great time!
