Rentierschlittenfahrt und Bauernhoferlebnis ab Rovaniemi

I took part in the Northern lights hunting photo tour with bbq. It was a spectacular experiences although we had only a glimpse of the Aurora. But the clear sky with the milky way was absolutely beautiful, and Jack took execellent photos. Moreover I had to thank Jone who picked me up from Rovaniemi airport and Sarah who guided us at the Reindeer Farm Experience. All tours as well as the ride from the hotel back to the airport were perfectly organized. So, I would recommend Nordic Unique Travels to everyone who is looking for guided tours around Rovaniemi.

We booked the tour through our tour provider. Although it said here that a Pick Up and Drop Off are included, we had to realize upon receipt of the vouchers that the starting point is the office of Nordic unique travels. We then went to the farm with about 12 participants. Once there you were immediately taken to the sleds, after a small briefing we started. In a circle for about 5 minutes. This was really disappointing and nowhere near as shown in the advertising pictures. Afterwards you could feed the reindeer on the fence. Then we went to a cabin. Here you could help yourself to warm blueberry juice and eat a mini cinnamon roll. Something was told about the reindeer and the farm. Then the 'experience' was already over and one was taken back to Rovaniemi. It is a typical tourist attraction without charm.

15 minutes driving, Max. 8 to 10 minutes in a sled. Over 130 euros, the biggest nub of our lives. Kindness tried.

The farm is very commercial, too many people for little capacity. Only 2 toilets for a lot of people. Explanation about reindeer was interesting and combined with some blueberry hot drink and an ikea cinnamon bun. The ride itself is not more than 10 minutes in a circle like on „pony goes around“ whizz the guide pulling a reindeer and all sledges connected by rope. Purely money making machine.

We booked a visit to a reindeer farm as a couple with a 3-year-old child. We paid 350.- with initially, in the booking process, transportation from the hotel. When the excursion was confirmed, the meeting point was finally at the agency. We arrived on time and left 20min late because we had to wait for our driver. Arriving at the car we had to ask for a car seat for our 3-year-old child because otherwise he would have travelled on our lap without causing any problem to anyone (we were in a standard car)... the ride took place with a driver who was taped to his phone making calls and answering texts... very safe. Once we arrive on the spot we are taken care of by “a guide” who explains what we can do in the farm while waiting our turn for the reindeer ride: that is to say, to pick up leaves to give to the 3 reindeer attached to trees or take sledges to make descents on a mini track (explanation time less than 5min). No other explanation before she leaves us. We take the reindeer ride (5-10min, it’s a short walk...) then are invited to join all visitors for tea and cake with explanations about the reindeer (10-15min). Then here we are ... back to the agency. You should know that by taking the tickets directly on the farm website (which is moderately rated on TripAdvisor that is why I had not looked at their prices) the same service is charged 80€ in total because children up to 3 years old do not pay. This price is effectively without transport but considering the fare charged by the agency we would have been much cheaper by taking a taxi to the farm. In short the impression of being scammed, I absolutely do not recommend this tour!! Note that the farm itself is ok (bcp of people but reindeer seem healthy and there seem to be regular turns between animals for walks, those who “rest” are in a large free range enclosure even if they have a hooked leash that follows them, I imagine to save time when changing animals) In short I put 2 stars but only for reindeer ....

The ride on the trench is really short! You take longer to get to the farm and back than on the ride itself. Positive points for the guides, who were extremely friendly with us and welcoming, an Italian and a Spanish. At the farm our experience was also very nice, because we had contact with the reindeer besides the ride on the trenó (not 10 minutes). I sincerely believe that you can spend less and take the same walk, maybe elsewhere or on that same farm. But after being there, I found the company's prices extremely expensive.

We had booked a reindeer farm tour with them just to have it canceled minutes before the tour because they overbooked it. They book as much people as possible without checking availability, minutes before the trip they start leaving a lot of people out, really unprofessional company.

We did a Reindeer tour with Pasquale and his friends on 22-Feb-24. Was fantastic, and I totally recommend it. It was friendly and unhurried, and a really magical and memorable experience in the beautiful countryside. the first thing we noticed on the tour was how well the animals were treated, and the wonderful harmony between the humans and the Reindeer - with each respecting and evidently liking the other. Pasquale gave us a detailed explanation of how the Reindeer live, and the symbiotic relationship between humans and Reindeer, which has thrived for centuries, with each benefitting from the other. Then we had a ride in a Reindeer sleigh, with an obviously happy and friendly Reindeer pulling us along, (the Reindeer chose the pace, and we trotted along very nicely - no controls from the driver - the Reindeer just trot along as they fancy). These are wild reindeer - these aren't domesticated animals - and all Summer, they live completely free and wild, and only in the winter season do they interact with humans; so these are properly wild animals, and yet they are relaxed and comfortable in the presence of humans - that is really really nice to see - and probably that is the most memorable part of the tour. Then after the rides, we all sat in a lovely cosy hut around a roaring natural-wood fire, and drank delicious hot berry-juice, with traditional spicey biscuits - which were really lovely, and we learned more about the history and practices of the Reindeer - and how the humans interact with them and protect them from predators - no hurry, and all super-interesting. After all the questions were done, there was plenty of time to finish off our drinks and snack, and no rush, and we all trotted off and were driven back to the starting point at the end of the tour. Super memorable, and super lovely. Before the tour, I was a little anxious in case the Reindeer were not nicely treated, but I needn't have worried - it was super-lovely to see how well the humans and animals interacted - if only we could find a way for other species of animals to be so well-treated as these ones. Obviously I am not so naive as to realise that many of the Reindeer will eventually be slaughtered for meat - and I'm a vegetarian, so don't like the idea of that AT ALL - however if you are going to have animals which will eventually become "meat", then this is the way that they should be treated - kindly, nicely, and with respect, and other types of animal-husbandry could really learn lessons from the Finns and how they interact with these beautiful, gentle, and graceful Reindeer. So if you are thinking of a tour - BOOK WITH THESE GUYS, because it is really lovely. Pasquale is a great ambassador for this company, and the more people select tours with these guys, the more it will help people like Pasquale to work with these graceful and lovely animals !

Very nice experience! Cute little and big reindeer! They pull you in a sleigh through the beautiful landscape of Rovaniemi. Best to dress warmly because it can get cold!

Fabulous trip - we travelled in a small group and met others at the Reindeer Park. The keepers were knowledgeable and friendly. The ride is quite short but really doesn't need to be any longer. The Reindeer all have different personalities and behave like cats on catnip when offered their favourite treat of a specific type of moss. The trip was followed by hot tea/coffee and a local biscuit treat together with being awarded our reindeer licences. The area around the park is absolutely stunning and worthy of photos on its own.
