Raj Heritage Walk

Beschreibung

I have spent time with Kaushik on multiple visits to Kolkata, and, over the years, he has become the reason I set aside at least a couple of days every time I travel there. He is an articulate storyteller — the kind who draws you into a city rather than merely narrating it. His knowledge of Kolkata and Bengal runs deep, accumulated over years of genuine love for the place. He takes time with questions, gives complete answers, and never makes you feel rushed. What sets Kaushik apart, beyond the knowledge, is the warmth. He is accommodating, flexible, and genuinely glad to have you along. These walks feel less like guided tours and more like a conversation with someone who has devoted his life to understanding Eastern India and Kolkata. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
Thank you so much for such a generous and beautifully expressed review. It truly means a lot. What you’ve described is exactly what I hope each walk becomes—a shared exploration rather than a guided script. Kolkata reveals itself slowly, and I’m glad we could take the time to let it unfold at its own pace. I’m especially grateful for your kind words about the conversations—we’ve had some memorable ones. Looking forward to many more walks and stories when you’re back in the city. See you soon! Warm regards, Kaushik
The tour commences at 6:30 AM and lasts until 9:15 which is very early but beats the heat and traffic and allows tourists to go back to the hotel for a late breakfast (or late morning snooze). The tour guide was very informative and knowledgeable. We had a great time walking the streets and sampling the early morning chai tea. This tour allows time for another tour later in the day!
Thank you for embracing the early start so sportingly! Kolkata in those quiet morning hours has a completely different rhythm, and I’m glad you could experience that side of the city—from the calm streets to the simple pleasure of chai. It was a pleasure walking with you, and I’m happy the tour struck the right balance between insight and ease. If you return, there are many more layers of the city waiting at different hours of the day. Warm wishes, Kaushik
Loved the walk, Kaushik was a great storyteller and we loved learning about Calcutta's history. Highly recommend, despite the early start.
Thank you for your kind words! I’m really glad you enjoyed the storytelling—Kolkata’s history comes alive best through its small details and human stories, and it’s always rewarding when that connects. I appreciate you mentioning the early start too—it often surprises people how much it adds to the experience. Hope to walk with you again someday. Best regards, Kaushik
This was the most amazing tour, the guide was so passionate and knowledgeable. I learnt so many new things that I would not learn otherwise. The tour definitely gave me a different and very positive view of Kolkata. Highly recommended
Thank you for your very kind words. I’m especially glad the tour offered you a fresh and positive perspective on Kolkata—that is perhaps the most meaningful outcome I could hope for. It was a pleasure walking with you and sharing the city’s stories. Wishing you many more memorable travels ahead. Warm regards, Kaushik
Loved every minute of this tour. Kaushik made history so enjoyable and interesting by telling lovely stories. Well worth the early rising out of bed. Thank you
Thank you for your kind words! I’m really glad you enjoyed the storytelling—Kolkata’s history is best experienced through its people and stories, and it’s always a joy to share that. And yes, the early mornings do have their rewards! Warm wishes, Kaushik
I was fortunate to have Kaushik all to myself! He patiently explained the history of Kalkota, pointing out interesting details which would otherwise be missed. He has a great knack for storytelling and bringing events to life. It was lovely to wander the streets before they got busy. Will definitely try to catch another tour and highly recommend.
Thank you—this was lovely to read. I’m especially glad you enjoyed the quieter, more detailed side of the experience. Those little observations often bring the city to life in unexpected ways. It was a pleasure having the time to explore at a comfortable pace together. I would be delighted to walk with you again when you’re next in Kolkata. Warm regards, Kaushik
Kaushik led my friend and I on the Raj Heritage Walk on our first trip to Kolkata. It was such a perfect way to explore the city, learn about its history and how it has shaped the Kolkata of today and rest of India. Kaushik wove in tales of the past in an engaging and relatable way. We learnt things we never knew about the city, as well as found a new appreciation for the things we did known. Would recommend Kolkata Story Tours whole heartedly to tourists or even those looking to get to know their own city a little bit better.
This was mesmerising with in detail explanation of each and every place with inside stories. Experience the living history today.. planning for next soon.
Outstanding tour, Kaushik really knows his history and told the story in a fascinating way. Really enjoyable early morning walk when the city is quiet.
As a solo female traveler in India for the first time, I joined two tours with Kaushik across Kolkata (also the Mesmerising Kolkata tour) and wow -- what a phenomenal experience! By far one of the absolute highlights of my time in India! Kaushik is brilliantly knowledgeable, a fantastic storyteller, immensely kind and patient, flexible in how the visit is organised, always making sure that I felt safe, had enough to eat and drink and that my questions were answered. It felt like he knew the history and had stories for every single building, street and square we passed. Some of the highlights for me included drinking chai and sitting in Lal Dighi/Tank Square while Kaushik told us the history of Kolkata. But even with all the extraordinary sights, the true highlight of the tour was getting to experience the intensity of the daily rush and flow of busy Kolkata streets. Kaushik made me feel safe and taken care of throughout. Kaushik, I can't thank you enough for this experience. I will recommend your tours to anyone going to India and hope to be able to join another in the future. All the best!!
