This tour was so cool and interesting. My guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Biking through the cellars was a lot of fun. The tasting experience felt like a nice reward at the end of it. Very cool and I would do it avain!
To be clear from the beginning, I booked the electric train/cart option not the cycling one, so please consider that in reading this review. The tour was well paced and took us deep into the cellars. Our guide was excellent and told great stories and history of not just the wines and cellars, but the background of people with win in the cellars, and all kinds of interesting info. Toward the end we were led to a wonderful room for a tasting of a few wines along with a small plate of food as palette cleansers. This was one of the best winery tours I’ve been lucky enough to experience.
Biking through the Milestii Mici winery was such a fun and slightly surreal experience. There were just three of us — me, one other guest from Italy, and our guide — which made it feel really relaxed and personal. Riding bikes through the underground tunnels (which are in the Guinness Book of Records!) was genuinely unforgettable. The tour wrapped up perfectly with great snacks and a generous wine tasting, which hit the spot after all the cycling. A must-do if you’re in Chișinău and want something a bit different.
Collection was on time and efficient. Dropped at the winery and awaited the tour in plenty of time. The tour started on time and I was the only only on it! Enjoyed the cycling and seeing the cellars. Enjoyed the delicious wines. The music entertainment for one was a little much(!), but overall a fun and enjoyable experience and I glad I went.
The tour of the largest winery in the world was both interesting and fun. We travelled by a cart train as the bicycle option was unavailable. In hindsight bicycle travel would have been a bit tricky in the dark tunnels. Our guide Pedro was knowledgeable and engaging. The tasting of 3 wines was in a comfortable room 60m underground. A delicious food plate (including walnut-stuffed prunes) and a violinist/accordionist duo accompanied the experience. The owner of the tour company (Andrei Rusu) personally picked us up and returned us to our apartment in downtown Chisinau. All in all a great experience and fine value for the cost. Great communication immediately upon booking to explain options and hotel pickup/drop off. Fun half-day event at winery!
It was actually quite fun cycling through the tunnels, even though my bike had very poor brakes. The wine cellar itself is very impressive, with vast spaces and an almost surreal atmosphere. During the wine tastings, however, the guide poured us three types of wine and then left without giving any further information. I met another tourist who had been there a day after me, and they got to try five different wines and were given information about them. I’m actually a bit disappointed. I had expected more of a wine tasting. In the shop on the way out, there was a very uninterested salesperson, and I had to go up to the counter myself to get any help. I asked for a red wine, but the salesperson handed me a bottle of dessert wine instead—and I didn’t realize it until I got home. Sure, they may have over 1.5 million bottles of wine there, but apart from that, it wasn’t exactly a quality experience.
Dear Jessica, Thank you for your review. We are sorry you had a bad experience with the guide and salesperson. Indeed, Mileștii Mici is more about the impressive cellars and wine collection, rather then the tasting process itself. Due to the very large number of tourists, sometimes the guides may not give sufficient attention to each individual tourist. We will notify the winery about your experience to prevent such cases in the future. Regarding the number of wines you tasted, our tasting package indeed includes 3 types of wine (the Hai Noroc package). The tourist you met probably had another tasting package, which is a bit more expensive. However, if you would like to enjoy a truly authentic wine tasting with a winemaker, we would like to recommend the small wineries in Moldova such as Crama Mircesti, Et Cetera or Domeniile Pana. Please contact us for a trip to one of these wineries. Again, we are sorry for your experience at Milesti Mici, but we hope you will come back to Moldova. Best regards, Andrei Rusu
Although the tour is quite expensive, it's well worth doing. After all it's not every day you get the chance to cycle around the world's largest underground wine collection! The guide rides with you leading the way & outlining fascinating facts about the winery. The ride is easy going, in fact most of it feels downhill. At the end you sit down to taste (drink!) a selection of the nice wine, with a small plate of antipasti, whilst serenaded by a violin & accordion. Bottles of wine can be purchased from the shop, but there is no expectation on you to do so. Pickup is from your accommodation.
What an interesting trip! Biking inside an underground winery is truly a fascinating experience, highly recommended!
I booked the biking tour and was informed less than 24 hours before the activity that the bike guide was not available for my tour after all. I was offered a group tour in an electric cart instead. My driver stated that many of his passengers have also had the biking element of their tour stripped away at the last second for some reason or another. The activity seems like it would be fun, but the actual delivery is inconsistent.
