Köln ist eine der ältesten Städte Deutschlands und wurde 50 n. Chr. Von den Römern gegründet, als sie „Colonia Claudia Ara Aggrippinensium“ hieß. Hier lebte Roms kaiserlicher Gouverneur, und die Stadt wurde schnell als eines der wichtigsten Handels- und Produktionszentren des Reiches nördlich der Alpen angesehen. Danach wurde es von den Franken besetzt und von Karl dem Großen zum Erzbistum (Amt eines Erzbischofs) ernannt. Es hat den Zweiten Weltkrieg überlebt und gilt heute als bedeutendes Kulturzentrum mit Museen, die zu den besten der Welt zählen.

Ihr erstes touristisches Wahrzeichen ist der Kölner Dom, ein Meisterwerk der gotischen Architektur und eine der wichtigsten Touristenattraktionen der Stadt. Noch heute kann der Rheinpegel am Fuße der Mikwe abgelesen werden. Nächste und letzte Station ist die romanische katholische Kirche des Großen Heiligen Martin. Mit seinem Fundament aus dem Jahr 960 n. Chr., Das kürzlich nach seiner Zerstörung im Zweiten Weltkrieg restauriert wurde, ist es eines der Highlights der Altstadt.

The city is centered on the Kölner Dom - the Cologne Cathedral. Sophia was very knowledgeable about the city and history of the cathedral. Her advice on how to tour the inside of the Cathedral was spot on and I would have missed the opportunity to get the most out of my visit. Our discussion was very informative and enjoyable.
Ralph was highly personable and friendly. Customized the tour based on my questions and interests. He not only shared key facts, but did so in a way that "made it real". (e.g. taking me to a specific street corner and sharing photos of the events that unfolded on that very corner in WW2. So IMPACTFUL!) Overall, Ralph was fantastic and I look forward to returning to Cologne and talking with Ralph again! Highly recommend!

Sasha was a fantastic guide! He was very knowledgeable about his history of Cologne and told stories with excitement while personalizing them at the same time. He showed us and taught us things about the city we never would have known just by reading or walking the city on our own. We had a 15 year old daughter with us, and she loved the tour as much as we did. Given the length of the tour, Sasha gave us some choices about what we prioritized seeing and learning. It’s a walking tour and there are cobblestone roads in most areas so would not be appropriate for elderly or handicapped individuals. For all others, however, my family and I highly recommend this tour!
