Die Roten Khmer machten die Toul Sleng High School zu einem Zentrum für Verhöre, Folter und Tod. In jedem Raum sind Tausende Fotos von Opfern zu sehen. Sie werden langsam gehen und die Materialien untersuchen, die für die Befragung von Gefangenen verwendet werden. Danach fahren wir ca. 15 km in Richtung Südwesten von Phnom Penh und erreichen Choeung Ek. Das Denkmal in Choeung Ek vor den Toren von Phnom Penh war ein Obstgarten! Und ein chinesischer Friedhof vor 1975. Während des Regimes der Roten Khmer wurde er zu einem der Tötungsfelder, auf denen mehr als 17.000 Menschen brutal hingerichtet wurden, von denen die meisten zuerst im Toul Sleng-Gefängnis gefoltert und entzogen wurden. Choeung Ek ist heute eine Gruppe von Massengräbern und eine Gedenkstupa mit Tausenden von Schädeln. Komm zurück ins Hotel und steig aus.

Tuol Sleng war eine ehemalige High School, die die Roten Khmer zu einem Zentrum für Verhöre, Folter und Tod machten. Heute ist es ein Foltermuseum und erinnert die Besucher an die schrecklichen Gräueltaten in Kambodscha. 17.000 Menschen gingen durch die Tore dieses Gefängnisses und nur sieben lebten, um die Geschichte zu erzählen.
Gefangene aus Tuol Sleng folgten demselben Weg zu ihrem Schicksal. Choeng Ek, ein alter chinesischer Friedhof, wurde in ein Vernichtungslager für politische Gefangene verwandelt. Die Überreste von 8985 Menschen wurden aus Massengräbern exhumiert und werden hier in einer Gedenkstupa aufbewahrt. Trotz der Schrecken der Vergangenheit ist es ein friedlicher Ort und ein ruhiger Ort, um über die tragischen Ereignisse nachzudenken, die Kambodscha und seine Bevölkerung erfasst haben.

On our first visit to Phnom Penh, we felt we needed to visit the Killing Fields and Genocidal Museum to understand the full extent of the atrocities that happened here, but also to pay our respect to the victims. Ms Thavy was an excellent private guide, allowing us to move at our own pace, giving us clear explanations for everything we saw, but also giving us time alone to see and reflect on the mass graves and the museum exhibits. It was a hard morning, and what we really found difficult, was that this all happened in our lifetime. A sobering and sad experience but important to learn about . Our guide Mrs Thavy was very good in explaining the true horrors of what happened here. Excellent tour. Boat was easy. We had early pickup so rushed through early breakfast at hotel but need not have bothered - croissant and fruit on board would have been sufficient. Guide was very informative and knowledgeable. Great day

The Killing Field trip was a difficult one, but Mrs. Sreyneang was an excellent guide. She explained in detail what had happened, but with empathy and at a speed that we could digest it all. Her knowledge and caring came through and we felt lucky to have such an amazing tour guide. She even took us to meet the last two living survivors of the prison. That is something we won't forget. We recommend that everyone do this tour so we all fully understand how awful human beings can be to each other. It also shows how much people tried to help each other in a desperate time.
