St. Leonard’s Private Horseback Tour for 2 to Xunantunich is a Must Do when you visit Belize! Their well-behaved horses made this one of the best adventure trail rides we’ve ever experienced and we try to ride everywhere we go. Carla, the owner and our guide, was a wealth of archaeological knowledge, turning it into the ultimate history lesson. She took her time on our private tour and led us to hidden areas of the ruins we never would have discovered or learned about on our own. Xunantunich itself is incredibly interesting and unique—a Maya site with the towering El Castillo pyramid, perched on a ridge overlooking the Mopan River. The unique thrill of crossing the river on a ferry with our horses was unforgettable, the horses were very well behaved and the ride along the river was very enjoyable with Carla pointing out different plants and animals along the way. After our tour of the ruins, we rode back to the stable and Carla brought us to an authentic Belizean lunch at Benny’s Kitchen, the food was delicious! We can’t recommend this tour enough—for any age or riding level! Five stars!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for this incredible review and for choosing St Leonard’s to be part of your Belize journey. It means so much to hear that this ride stands out among the many places you’ve ridden around the world. Our horses are truly part of us, and knowing their calm nature helped create such a memorable experience makes us proud. Carla will be deeply touched by your words—sharing the history, spirit, and hidden stories of Xunantunich is something she pours her heart into. We love that you felt the magic of discovering areas of the ruins that most visitors never see. Crossing the river together with the horses is one of those moments that stays with you forever, and we’re so glad it was a highlight for you. Riding along the river while learning about the plants and wildlife is exactly the kind of connection to nature we hope every guest feels. Xunantunich truly is a special place, and experiencing it on horseback adds a sense of timelessness to the journey. We’re also happy you enjoyed the stop at Benny’s Kitchen—sharing authentic Belizean food is part of sharing our culture. Your kind words about the pace, care, and personal attention of the tour mean everything to us. Reviews like yours reminds us that at St Leonard’s, this is more than a tour—it’s an experience made with heart. Hope you have blast with your skijoring and warmest regards to Mark.
I am almost in tears with happiness recalling the tour she gave us. A full day of horseback riding, storytelling, history, archeology, biology, and more. From the moment we met at the stables until the time we had to sadly say goodbye, Carla was delightful. She prepped us weeks ahead for clothing, timing, weather, and what to expect. Once we arrived it was just my wife and me with Carla. Two relaxing hours on horseback to the Xunantuich temple and then an in-depth, by our request, tour of the ruins. We spend almost 90 minutes exploring the area, getting more interesting information than we could have ever expected. The return was chilled out, relaxing, and still full of neat nuggets of information about the area and history of the region. We were genuinely sad the adventure had to end and we had to leave Carla knowing we would probably never see her again. We had made a friend and we'll never forget our time on this amazing experience.

All the best and know that Carla will surely remember both of you. Thank you for making us part of your unforgettable experience.
