Von Bilbao aus fahren wir in östlicher Richtung nach San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, einem Ort, an dem Game of Thrones Staffel 7 gedreht wurde, um die atemberaubende Aussicht auf diese alte Insel am Golf von Biskaya von ihrem Aussichtspunkt aus zu bewundern. Hinweis: Wir halten nur ein paar Minuten an, um Fotomöglichkeiten zu nutzen. Wir werden die Wanderung zum Gipfel der Einsiedelei nicht machen.
Weiter in östlicher Richtung besuchen wir das Dorf Gernika, das außerhalb des Baskenlandes als der Ort bekannt ist, an dem 1937 einer der ersten Luftangriffe gegen die Zivilbevölkerung stattfand.
Wir überqueren die Provinz Gipuzkoa und fahren nach Zumaia, um die spektakuläre Küste der Provinz Gipuzkoa und ihren berühmten Flysch zu bewundern, ein weiterer Ort, an dem Game of Thrones Staffel 7 gedreht wurde. Von hier aus machen wir einen kurzen Spaziergang entlang der Flysch-Route und betrachten eine der atemberaubendsten Landschaften der gesamten baskischen Küste (auch ein wunderbarer Ort für Fotomöglichkeiten).
Wenn Sie der Küstenstraße nach Osten folgen, stoßen Sie auf weitläufige grüne Felder voller Txakoli-Weinberge mit Blick auf das Meer und werfen einen Blick auf unser nächstes Ziel: die wunderschöne Küstenstadt Getaria, die als wichtiger Fischereihafen bekannt ist und in der sich das Museum befindet des berühmten Modedesigners Cristobal Balenciaga und des Geburtsortes von Juan Sebastian Elcano, dem ersten Mann, der die Erde umrundet. Unternehmen Sie einen geführten Spaziergang durch das Dorf und den berühmten Hafen und lernen Sie die Geschichte, die traditionellen baskischen Fischfangmethoden und wichtige Persönlichkeiten kennen, die in Getaria geboren wurden.

The highlight of our trip! Mikel was an incredible host and tailored the itinerary to incorporate my ancestral home town, Leketio. He was full of local insight and history, and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and accommodated. We not only saw some smaller towns that we would have never otherwise seen (like the unique town of EA), but came upon and official visit with traditional dancers at the tree of Gernika and a group of kids practicing handball with their coach in Mutriku. An unqualified recommendation. Ander is among the very best guides you could ever hope for. He was born and raised in Basque Country (San Sebastian). He is very friendly, courteous, fun (yet extremely professional), articulate (speaks 5 languages fluently and articulately, including English), extremely knowledgeable of the area, history, culture, best sights, restaurants, bars (Pintxos), etc. We had last minute itinerary changes and he graciously accommodated our needs. My wife and I were very interested in the Basque history, culture and sights (I have distant ancestors from the Basque country) and he exceeded our highest hopes & expectations. He chauffeured us in a new Mercedes van which was very comfortable. We experienced our tour in every way: sights, sounds, food, culture, history... extraordinary for 1 day. I am certain there could not have been a better gentleman to guide us through our day in the Basque Country.
