Private Tour Pompeji und Herculaneum

I have used Roberto of Sorrento car Tours many times when I come to the Amalfi area. Roberto is very professional, fun, prompt and trustworthy. We totally felt comfortable with him and used him to pick us up at the airport and took us to Sorrento. Then we had him take us to Sorrento to Revello and we were able to stop at Positano and Amalfi and had a wonderful lunch overlooking the water which he recommended. Then he picked us up from Revello and took us to our hotel in Naples and we did the Pompeii and Herculaneum tour with a stop at a winery. Roberto is the best!

We had an extraordinary visit from Pompeii and Herculaneum. Our Guide Mike was just great. We had a 2h00 ride with him, and it passed so fast, we did not see the time passed. We used Sorrento Car Tours for several tours: Herculaneum, Pompeii, winery, Positano and Amalfi coast plus Roberto came to our rescue when the ferries to Ischia from Sorrento were canceled due to inclement weather and we had to get to Naples to catch a bigger ferry to the island. Roberto is an expert driver especially on the road through the Amfali Coast. We really appreciated Roberto's flexibility when we wanted to stop for ceramics and limoncello shopping. We booked this private tour with Sorrento Car Tours for two ladies. From start to finish the organisation by Roberto was excellent, he also drove us personally. Roberto recommended we stop for lunch and a wine tasting at a vineyard which made a welcome break to a long day. I reached out to Roberto through email and he was always quick to respond to our transfer request and questions, and helped us arrange a private tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum on one leg of our transfer. He set us up with an amazing guide. Roberto was punctual, friendly and personable. Had i not already booked other excursions already in the Sorrento area, I would have completely trusted Roberto to make the best arrangements (and made it a lot easier on myself too!). From the day we started corresponding by Email, to the private transportation from Naples to Positano with a stop for lunch at a winery, to the private tour of the Amalfi coast, to the private transportation from Sorrento to Naples including a stop in Pompeii and Herculaneum and lunch at a winery to the privated transportation from Naples to Rome, Roberto was the best. When we booked this trip it was called a private tour, indicating that it would be a "private tour". To us , that meant we would have our own guide. In the description though it said they recommended hiring a private guide. This made no sense so i called to clarify. The help desk told me that our driver would be our tour guide. For $600 our driver woild pick us up, drive us to Pompeii and Herculaneum and be our tour guide and bring us back . Sounded great. We booked the tour. When our driver picked us up and stopped at Herculaneum he told us where to meet him when we were done. We said wait, we thought you were our guide. He said oh no, I am just your driver. You have to hire a guide. This was not the drivers fault so we paid for our $600 taxi ride to the ruins and back to the hotel. We just toured the ruins on our own. Once back at the hotel I placed a complaint in with Viator. Their first response was that we can't refund your trip. The add says you have to hire a guide at the sites. I explained that their people told me our driver was our tour guide and that I would not have paid $600 just for a ride when our hotel said they would provide transportation for $350. I explained that my phone conversation with their help desk should be recorded if they want to check and that I wasn't looking for a full refund. I just wanted the difference of what just the transportation cost. In a matter of a couple days, they refunded me half of what we were charged and apologized for the inconvenience...That is great customer service and I will definitely use them again! The sites are amazing by the way. Other then the snafu with the description of the tour on this one trip, I would give them a 5 because we had other trips planned with them that were absolutely great!
