Betreten Sie zuerst die Taroko-Schlucht durch den Torbogen. Dieser große Torbogen, der von der traditionellen Chinesischen Palastarchitektur inspiriert ist, befindet sich am südlichen Ende der Jinwen-Brücke, wo er auf den Central Cross-Island Highway trifft. Seine sechsstellige Inschrift, geschrieben von dem berühmten modernen Kalligraphen Mr. Wang Chuang‐Wei ist seit seiner Eröffnung zum Wahrzeichen der Autobahn geworden. Heute fungiert es auch als Eingang zur Taroko-Schlucht und fungiert sowohl als Wahrzeichen als auch als beliebte Fotomöglichkeit.

Im Taroko National Park Visitor Center können Sie mehr über die geologischen Kräfte erfahren, die Taroko geprägt haben. Taiwans Landschaft wurde durch plattentektonische Kompression erhöht, wodurch Erdbeben üblich wurden. Die Exponate zeigen auch die Vorher-Nachher-Effekte seismischer Ereignisse – vor allem das große Hualien-Erdbeben im Jahr 2024, das die Wege und Landformen des Parks dramatisch veränderte.
Eternal Spring Shrine wurde zum Gedenken an die 226 Soldaten (Militärveteranen) erbaut, die beim Bau des Central Cross-Island Highway ums Leben kamen.
Tianxiang liegt am östlichen Teil des Central Cross-Island Highway, etwa 19 km von der Taroko Gorge entfernt. Hier vereinen sich der Dasha- und der Tacijili-Fluss zum Liwu-Fluss, dessen lange Geschichte der Sedimentation und Erosion markante mehrterrassige Flussufer geformt hat. Dieses weitläufige Tal war einst voller Restaurants, Geschäfte und Hotels, aber nach dem Erdbeben von 2024 gingen die Besucherzahlen zurück und viele Unternehmen zogen weg – und hinterließen eine friedliche, fast unberührte Atmosphäre. Halten Sie Ausschau nach Formosan Makaken, die durch die Gegend ziehen; ihre Anwesenheit verleiht diesem ruhigen Bergrefugium eine charmante wilde Note.
Entlang des Central Cross-Island Highway, nachdem Sie Jiuqudong (Tunnel der neun Kurven) passiert haben, erreichen Sie die Cimu Bridge (Muttergottesbrücke). Diese H-förmige Hängebrücke verfügt über Marmorsteinlöwen an jedem Ende und Marmorlotossteine an zwei Seiten. Unterhalb der Brücke ähnelt ein Felsen einem Frosch, der aus einer schwarzen Schieferschicht oben und weißem Marmor unten gebildet ist. Ein auf diesem froschförmigen Felsen errichteter Pavillon dient als Krone, die der verstorbene Präsident Chiang Jing-guo im Gedenken an seine Mutter während des Baus der Autobahn errichtet hat. Der Cimu-Pavillon, der sich auf der Ostseite der Brücke befindet und vom verstorbenen Präsidenten Chiang Kai-shek erbaut wurde, erinnert auch an seine Mutter, Frau Wang.
Xincheng ist ein Dorf am Fuße der Taroko-Schlucht, bekannt für seine lokalen Hualien-Imbissstände und Restaurants. Sein Fotostudio im Vintage-Stil ist ein idealer Zwischenstopp. Wenn Sie irgendwelche Ernährungsvorlieben haben, zögern Sie nicht, Ihren Fahrer-Fortgeschrittener nach lokalen Vorschlägen am Tag zu fragen.
Der Qixingtan Beach ist ein malerischer Kiesstrand an der Pazifikküste Hualiens, direkt nördlich der Stadt. Seine sichelförmige Küste, tiefblaues Wasser und die Bergkulisse machen es zu einem idealen Ort, um den Sonnenaufgang zu beobachten und Fotos zu machen. Besucher können auf dem Küstenweg radeln, in Pavillons entspannen oder an lebhaften Häusern und Kunstinstallationen vorbeischlendern. Nachts ist der Strand ruhig – perfekt für Sternen- und Wellenbeobachtungen. Hinweis : Schwimmen ist aufgrund starker Strömungen nicht erlaubt. Qixingtan ist ein Muss für diejenigen, die die Natur und Ruhe während eines Ausflugs nach Hualien genießen möchten. Bevor Sie Ihren Besuch beenden, lauschen Sie den Wellen, die auf den Felsen krachen, und genießen Sie den atemberaubenden Blick auf den Pazifischen Ozean.

It’s long day due to travel times. However worth the drag. Be prepared to climb and walk in the heat. Our guide was very accommodating and was happy to stop when we wanted.
Bubble was an amazing tour guide who gave us a great experience! Everything was timed out perfectly and we were introduced to all of the sights as Bubble discussed the history of Taroko. Even though most of the hikes are closed still, we had a great time and enjoyed no crowds and no admission fee. Highly recommend this tour, especially for foreign tourists and anyone with movement difficulties. Thank you Bubble, we had a great day!
Wonderful tour! Jack was an excellent, friendly, and knowledgeable tour guide. The ride was very comfortable. Jack took us to so many beautiful sights and provided lots of info about the gorge. Would highly recommend this tour!
This was a private tour, actually I was the only one in the tour. Caleb was my tour guide and he was awesome. Very knowledgeable about sites, history and everything in-between. Taroko gorge is amazing and we visited as much as was possible given the construction repairs after the earthquake (about 3 years ago). I highly recommend it!

Jack was a fantastic tour guide. Always attentive, informative, and knowledgeable. He knows all the spots to go and all the right ways to get there. Although the hiking trails in the park are closed post-earthquake, it is still open for driving tours and small stops along the way. Absolutely gorgeous and definitely worth it.

Very long day, mostly driving. 3 hours each way, + driving locally. Gorges are nice but not worth the distance. People should stay at least a couple days on site, and perhaps do local activities (beach, hiking)
Hi Joel, Thank you for sharing your honest feedback. You're completely right about the drive—it does take about 2.5 to 3 hours each way from Taipei, and holiday traffic can make it even longer. We always try to include a couple of rest stops for snacks and bathroom breaks to make the long journey more comfortable. We also appreciate your note about staying overnight. Since the 2024 earthquake, several gorge trails remain closed for safety. To adapt, our current day tour combines open paths with coastal activities at Qixingtan Beach. As the park continues its restoration, we look forward to adding more trails back into the itinerary. Thank you again for your valuable insights. My partner and I had a great time on this tour. Even though all the trails were closed due to the big earthquake in 2024, our tour guide, Steven, was still able to show us quite a few good spots to explore and take photos. Steven was very friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and didn’t rush us and let us take our time to enjoy the beauty of Tarako Gorge National Park. Highly recommended.
