Um 6, 7, 8 und 9 Uhr beginnen wir Ihre Tour nach Alexandria, der zweitgrößten Stadt Ägyptens. Sie war fast tausend Jahre lang die Hauptstadt Ägyptens und wurde von Alexander dem Großen gegründet. Sie hat eine eher mediterrane als orientalische Atmosphäre und ist berühmt für ihre römischen Ruinen.
Ihr erster Halt in dieser historischen Stadt sind die Katakomben, der größte römische Friedhof mit drei in den Fels gehauenen Ebenen aus dem 1. oder 2. Jahrhundert.
Die „Pompejus-Säule“, auch bekannt als Ägyptens meistverehrte Gedenksäule, ist ein Symbol von historischer Bedeutung. Dieses kolossale Bauwerk aus massivem rotem Granit erreicht eine atemberaubende Höhe von etwa 28 Metern, während sein Sockel einen beeindruckenden Durchmesser von 2,7 Metern aufweist. Den oberen Teil der Westseite ziert eine Inschrift in eleganter griechischer Sprache. Diese Inschrift zollt dem geschätzten Kaiser Diokletian Tribut, der für sein unerschütterliches Engagement für Gerechtigkeit und seine Rolle als Wächter von Alexandria bekannt war. Sie würdigt auch die monumentalen Anstrengungen von Postumus, dem geschätzten Präfekten Ägyptens, der den Bau dieses großartigen Denkmals beaufsichtigte. Durch ihre Erhabenheit und historische Relevanz dient die Pompejus-Säule als Zeugnis des reichen Erbes und der bleibenden Hinterlassenschaft Ägyptens.
Besichtigung von außen. Bitte beachten Sie: Die Qaitbay-Zitadelle in Alexandria gilt als eine der wichtigsten Verteidigungsfestungen in Ägypten und entlang der Mittelmeerküste. Im 15. Jahrhundert n. Chr. war sie für die Befestigungen Alexandrias von entscheidender Bedeutung. Die Zitadelle befindet sich am Eingang des östlichen Hafens an der Ostspitze der Insel Pharos. Sie wurde an der Stelle des berühmten Leuchtturms von Alexandria errichtet, einem der sieben Weltwunder der Antike. Der Leuchtturm funktionierte bis zur Zeit der arabischen Eroberung weiter. Es ereigneten sich mehrere Katastrophen und die Form des Leuchtturms wurde in gewissem Maße verändert, aber er funktionierte weiterhin. Die Restaurierung begann während Ahmed Ibn Tulun (ca. 880 n. Chr.). Im 11. Jahrhundert beschädigte ein Erdbeben den achteckigen Teil. Der untere Teil blieb erhalten, konnte aber nur als Wachturm dienen, sodass oben eine kleine Moschee errichtet wurde. Im 14. Die Bibliothek von Alexandria war eine der berühmtesten und einflussreichsten Bibliotheken der Antike. Sie befand sich in Alexandria, Ägypten, und wurde im dritten Jahrhundert v. Chr. von dem großen Herrscher Ptolemaios I. Soter erbaut. Die Bibliothek sollte eine riesige Sammlung von Büchern und Manuskripten beherbergen, darunter Werke zu Philosophie, Mathematik, Wissenschaft und Literatur. Sie wurde schnell zu einem Zentrum des Lernens und der Kultur der Antike, und ihr Einfluss reichte weit über Alexandria hinaus. Die Bibliothek von Alexandria war für ihre riesige Sammlung von Büchern und Manuskripten bekannt. Sie soll bis zu 500.000 Schriftrollen enthalten haben und war eine der größten Wissenssammlungen der Antike. Die Bibliothek war auch die Heimat mehrerer berühmter Gelehrter und Denker, darunter des Mathematikers Euklid und des Astronomen Eratosthenes.

We had a memorable time in Alexandria because we have the best tour guide Ehab Mehana and our driver Maged. We were picked up from our hotel and drove about 3 hours to reach our destination. Ehab is sensitive to our needs, giving us time for toilet or coffee breaks. He has very good command of the English language. He didn’t rush us in any place , he gave us enough time to explore and even volunteered to take our pictures. He is very knowledgeable and can answer all our questions. Best of all a very patient guide with many years of experience. It shows how much he is enjoying his work . By the end of the day he is like a family to us .Hope to see him again someday . We had a wonderful trip to Alexandria with our driver, Shadi. He was punctual, professional, and very friendly throughout the day. The travel to Alexandria while long (2.5 hours) , it was quite smooth. We got to see all the key sites (the catacombs , the citadel, the library and the Pompeii column) and Fady our guide was quite helpful and patient.

I only booked the driver. The driver Karim is friendly and responsive. He drove safely and took us to different points at Alexandria, and allowed us some free time to explore. He also took us to a seafood restaurant for lunch. Thank you for arranging everything.

A really disappointing day, the driver to Alexandria took 5 hours due to fog and when we arrived the tour was cut short so we could get back to Cairo. There was no discussion regarding the tour being cut short and theee was no reason for us to be back in Cairo at 5pm. I felt the whole experience was a rip off and couldn’t recommend this to anyone.
