Arashiyama, im Westen Kyotos, Japan, ist ein malerischer Bezirk, der für seine natürliche Schönheit und sein kulturelles Erbe bekannt ist. Kinkaku-ji, oder der Goldene Pavillon, wurde ursprünglich 1397 als Pensionsvilla für den Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu erbaut. Nach seinem Tod wurde die Villa in einen zen-buddhistischen Tempel umgewandelt. Die Struktur spiegelt eine Mischung aus traditionellen japanischen und chinesischen Architekturstilen wider. Obwohl das ursprüngliche Gebäude 1950 durch Brandstiftung zerstört wurde, wurde es 1955 wieder aufgebaut, wobei die obersten beiden Stockwerke mit Blattgold bedeckt waren, was Reinheit und Erleuchtung symbolisierte.
Nishiki Market (Nishiki Ichiba) ist eine schmale, fünf Blocks lange Einkaufsstraße, die von mehr als hundert Geschäften und Restaurants gesäumt wird. Dieser lebendige Einzelhandelsmarkt, der als "Kyoto's Kitchen" bekannt ist, ist auf alle Lebensmittel spezialisiert, wie frische Meeresfrüchte, Produkte, Messer und Kochgeschirr. Einer der bekanntesten Tempel Japans ist Kiyomizudera, was übersetzt "Reiner Wassertempel" bedeutet. Seinen Namen erhielt er vom unberührten Wasser des Otowa-Wasserfalls, der sich auf den bewaldeten Hügeln östlich von Kyoto befindet, wo er 780 gegründet wurde. Der Tempel gründete 1965 die Kita Hosso-Sekte, nachdem er zunächst mit der Hosso-Sekte verbunden war, einer der ältesten Schulen des japanischen Buddhismus. Der Tempel wurde 1994 in das UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe aufgenommen. Das bemerkenswerteste Merkmal von Kiyomizudera ist seine Holzbühne, die 13 Meter über den umgebenden Hang aus der Haupthalle herausragt. Von der Bühne aus genießen die Besucher einen angenehmen Blick auf die vielen Kirsch- und Ahornbäume darunter, die in ein Farbenmeer ausbrechen.
Fushimi Inari Taisha ist einer der berühmtesten Shinto-Schreine Kyotos, der Inari gewidmet ist, der Gottheit des Reis, Wohlstand und Geschäft. Sie wurde 711 n. Chr. gegründet und ist berühmt für ihre tausenden lebhaften roten Torii-Tore (senbon torii), die Tunnel entlang der Wege bilden, die zum Berg Inari führen. Diese Tore, gestiftet von Einzelpersonen und Unternehmen, symbolisieren Dankbarkeit und Gebete für Erfolg. We had a fantastic experience with our driver and guide in Kyoto. He was incredibly flexible and accommodating, allowing us to adjust our schedule throughout the day based on what we wanted to see and how much time we wanted to spend at each location.
