This was a great tour and the guide was very informative. It was easy to keep up and navigate the streets on the city bikes. We loved hearing all about the history and becoming oriented with the different areas inside the walls of Lucca.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and for some it would be a good fit. As a family, we wanted to ride our bikes more with fewer stops.
Dear Sarah Mackay, thanks for your review. The guided tour of Lucca and the walls by bike, it's a sightseeing tour. The bike is a different way to move instead of walking. It's described as very easy because it's in Lucca centre and the walls, a small hamlet city, you can't do long ditances visiting Lucca. Its purpose is to show by bike the attractions of Lucca, stop in front of the main monuments to learn its story and traditions, maybe taking a photo. For people who love to bike we offer, also in this website bike tours on the river park, Villa Reale, countryside and even Lucca to Pisa. So, if the guide was good as you wrote and you chosen to have a guided visit of an historical centre, why try to damage the guide giving a bad vote to the activity. Your votes influence future sells, it's not a game, it's a work. Honestly I don't find a sense to this kind of reviews.
Bike tour was awesome, definitely the best way to experience Lucca ! I would highly recommend this tour and would do it again!
My mom and I enjoyed our afternoon very much on this tour of Lucca. My mom, who is 78 years old, managed the e-bike well around the town and walls. Lucca is a beautiful town with an interesting history. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and passionate about Lucca. She personalized the tour for us and focused on our interests. We were enjoying our experience so much our guide extended our time by 30 minutes. Don’t miss Lucca and this tour if you are in the area!
Guide was interesting and knowledgeable Tour was good but bike was in poor condition and company was not receptive to showing me its gears etc. I have toured on many e-bikes before and the one I was given was difficult to handle and out of tune
Our tour guide was excellent so that is the reason I gave it 3 stars. As far as the company for the ebikes I would give it one star because the ebikes were old and in need of maintenance. Everyone in our group had problems. We were not given a water bottle for the tour nor given assistance in setting up the bikes. We have done many ebike tours and were disappointed with this situation. It was not worth the cost of the tour.
My wife and I had to cut our Italy cruise short by 9 days since I broke my leg on this e-bike excursion of Lucca. The folks running the Bike Excursion were very nice but rushed through how to operate the bicycles. We were with two other friend couples on our trip. The guide shared interesting information as we began our bike tour. However, looking back we were not offered or required to wear helmets which led to my mishap. The top of the wall is a small boulevard with grass and trees on either side of the walking area. There are people walking, pushing their baby carriages and biking on the pathway. It was too crowded to bike on it because of all of the potential hazards of running into someone or something. Our guide biked ahead of us with occasional stops for guide information. There are no designated bike lanes. Not far into the excursion I was hit head on by another bicyclist coming the other way who was passing his girlfriend’s bike without noting that in doing so he would crash into me. I landed on my back with my head hitting the pavement and breaking my leg by my ankle. The other bicylcist was just bruised up a bit. Our guide called an ambulance and we left our friends two days later so I could returned home to the USA to have surgery to repair my broken fibula. Our friends finished the ride while my wife came with me to the hospital. Their assessment was poor as well since in the number of people in Lucca two of them lost the guide several times. Overall, a nice idea for an excursion but not enough safety measures were taken by the operators and honestly the streets of Lucca are too crowded to navigate through with a group of tourist bicyclists.
Hi Thomas, we are very sorry about your accident and we did everything we could to help you. Apart from the ambulance, my colleague came with our van to assist your wife and accompanied her to the hospital. We also offered to take her back to the port if possible after the treatment, leaving our telephone numbers, perhaps she hadn't known this. It seems to me that we did everything we could to assist you following the accident so this evaluation surprises us. And we are also surprised that there are too many subjective evaluations, let's say, that we have to report both for fairness towards Viator customers and to protect our work and the city. We offer guided or self-guided bike tours every day on the walls and outside the city and we have helmets, included in the price, that we give every day to customers who want them. Since it is not mandatory in Italy, those who do not request it can go without since the city inside the walls is pedestrian and cycle-friendly. In this regard I must also point out that the road on the walls is not small but very wide, reserved for bicycles and pedestrians for 40 years, but think that before it was a two-lane road for cars, so it is very wide for a cycle path. I would not call it small or pathway, it is 6 meters wide. People can see i from the photos. I also want to point out that, as far as we know, this is the first accident with our bicycles on the walls. Otherwise it seems that it is normal to have accidents on the walls during a tour, and it would be an incorrect message. Your group was made up of 8 people, our groups are always very small and therefore we believe that the guide gives the necessary attention to everyone. So we understand your sadness, but if a person who has nothing to do with us made a risky maneuver causing you damage to a leg, It's something hateful but I don't think the negativity should be transferred onto us by penalizing our work.
Highly recommend the bike tours of Lucca experience. It is a fantastic way to get to know this excellent town. Antonella, our guide, was SO wonderful and took the time to share with us the history in just the right amounts. Her charm, knowledge, and love of Lucca made this experience one of the best things we did while in Italy. The sights, pathways, and points of interest are well worth seeing, and if you can experience them via bike, even better, Even though we only had a few days in Lucca, we left the tour feeling like we had a real understanding of it. Despite the rain at the end of the tour, we thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Don't miss it! Thanks, Antonella!
Sara was an amazing tour guide. We ended up walking around the city instead of using the e- bike. It was like having your own personal guide. She knew so much history of her city. Great tour. Thank you Sara.
This was a very fun tour. For my family, and our guide was so passionate about her town. We really enjoyed it. Lucca is a very cool city.
