Man sollte auch die Bedeutung dieses wichtigen religiösen Ordens im zukünftigen Land Portugal verstehen und ebenso die Bedeutung, die Portugal für das Wachstum des Ordens hatte. Reiseverlauf
Wir beginnen unsere Templertour mit einem Besuch der Burg von Almourol, die sich auf einer kleinen Insel befindet, die bereits zur Zeit der römischen Besetzung der Halbinsel bewohnt war, später von den Templern, einer kleinen Burg mitten im Tejo, natürlich aus Schutzgründen.
Vielleicht der erste Sitz des Tempelordens, ein Übergang vom romanischen Stil zur Gotik, an der Fassade eine große Rosette mit dem Zeichen des Tempelritters, dem Signum Salomonis. In dieser Kirche befinden sich die Grabdenkmäler von Guladim Pais, dem Gründer der Stadt, und anderen Großmeistern des Ordens. Eine Kirche, die kleiner zu sein scheint als in Wirklichkeit, befindet sich nur einmal zwei Meter unter der Erde.
International als die Stadt der Templer bekannt, finden wir in Tomar Zeugnisse ihres Einflusses, nämlich die Mata dos Sete Montes, wo nach der Tradition Rituale initiiert wurden, und Templerzeichen in der ganzen Stadt, die die Bedeutung und den Stolz dieser Stadt dafür demonstrieren fantastische militärische Ordnung.
Portugal war jahrhundertelang die europäische Oase des friedlichen Zusammenlebens zwischen Christen, Muslimen und Juden. Die Tomar-Synagoge wurde Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts gegründet. XV, mitten im Zentrum der Stadt, ist der Vorwand für eine Überprüfung dieser ausgezeichneten Beziehung
Dann setzen wir unsere Templertour in Richtung Tomar fort und beginnen mit dem Besuch der Templerburg / des Klosters Christi, das bis 1314 Sitz des Tempelordens und ab 1357 des Christusordens war. Die Burg (1160) ist Teil des achteckigen Tabletts (Ende des 12. Jahrhunderts), romanisches Heiligtum orientalischen Einflusses.
Tomar Castle
Bevor wir jedoch nach Lissabon zurückkehrten, besuchten wir ein Aquädukt, das das 6 km von Tomar entfernte Schloss / Kloster Christi mit Wasser versorgte. Das Pegões-Aquädukt ist ein hervorragendes architektonisches Werk aus dem 16. Jahrhundert.

As passionate lovers of history—especially medieval history—our expectations for this tour were extremely high. We hoped for an immersive experience, but João did far more than meet our expectations: he exceeded them in every possible way. The logistics were flawless, making the entire day effortless and enjoyable. The tour itself was absolutely fascinating. João brought the history of the Knights Templar and the Order of Christ to life through detailed explanations, captivating stories, and an extraordinary depth of knowledge. He patiently answered all of our questions—and there were many!—with enthusiasm, expertise, and kindness. His time management was excellent. The day was perfectly organized, yet we never felt rushed. At every stop, João gave us the freedom to explore at our own pace while ensuring we experienced everything that made Tomar and Almurol so special. If all of that were not enough, João is an exceptionally kind, courteous, and thoughtful person. The photograph I am sharing here, showing him helping my mother down a staircase, speaks volumes about the impression he left on us: intelligent, hospitable, attentive, and genuinely caring. Long drive from Lisbon but was made good by the excellent commentary by our guide. She was very knowledgeable about the area and had almost no detectable accent in her American English. She was very patient with our taking pictures along the way.
