Der Botanische Garten, früher bekannt als Sir Seewoosagur Botanic Garden, ist eine der meistbesuchten Attraktionen auf Mauritius. Der Garten befindet sich in der Nähe von Port-Louis, im Stadtteil Pamplemousses. Der botanische Garten wurde ursprünglich vor fast 300 Jahren vom französischen Gouverneur von Mauritius als privater Garten eröffnet und später zum National Botanical Garden of Mauritius. Der botanische Garten erstreckt sich über endlose Hektar Land und es kann mehr als eine Woche dauern, bis Sie den gesamten Garten bedeckt haben. Es ist mit mehr als 650 Pflanzenarten bevölkert, darunter die berühmten Baobabs, die Palmier Bouteille, die unausweichlichen Riesenseerosen, Dutzende von Heilpflanzen, ein großer Gewürzgarten und vieles mehr. Eine der Hauptattraktionen des Botanischen Gartens sind die 85 verschiedenen Palmenarten, die aus verschiedenen Teilen der Welt hierher gebracht wurden. Auch andere einheimische Pflanzenarten werden hier ausgestellt.
Port Louis, die kosmopolitische Hauptstadt von Mauritius, wurde 1735 vom französischen Gouverneur und Pionier Bertrand-François Mahé de la Bourdonnais gegründet. Port Louis liegt an der Nordwestküste und ist die Verwaltungs- und Geschäftshauptstadt der Insel. Tagsüber herrscht reges Treiben, und die Stadt steckt voller kultureller und historischer Schätze, die man sich nicht entgehen lassen sollte. Jenseits des zentralen Marktes, der ein Anlaufpunkt für diejenigen ist, die die Seele von Mauritius lieben, befinden sich viele historische Stätten, darunter der Champ de Mars - die älteste Rennstrecke der südlichen Hemisphäre.

Das historische Zitadellenfort liegt etwa 100 Meter hoch auf dem Hügel von Petite Montague und ist zu einer der historischen Sehenswürdigkeiten von Mauritius geworden. Das Fort, das auch als Adelaide Fort bekannt ist (benannt nach der Frau von William II, als die Briten Land in Port Louis besaßen), bietet einen atemberaubenden Blick auf die gesamte Stadt Port Louis sowie auf den Hafen. Das Fort wurde im frühen 19. Jahrhundert von Colonel Cunningham als Versuch errichtet, die britische Armee vor dem Feind zu schützen. Es ist im maurischen Stil gebaut, komplett mit Hufeisenbögen. Die Festung wurde aus großen rechteckigen Blöcken gebaut. Das Fort wurde jetzt in ein Nationaldenkmal umgewandelt und ist von der Caudan Water Front und dem riesigen Indischen Ozean umgeben.

We spent our holiday as a family of five at the Beachcomber Cannoniere Mauritius. We booked for this excursion Rajesh Seewoopaul Rajesh.991@hotmail.com Spoke a great English, very informative. Took time for everything, knew the best places to exchange money. The family felt well looked after around. The car was very comfortable and space adequate for us as well. DANKE RAJESH!!!!
Good tour , made great by our guide/driver veet , who was very new to role but took us to extra sites . Poor fella had an accident , which was not his fault , on way back , which meant we didn’t get back until much later than planned . Just hope he gets it all sorted
The Botanical Garden was a super experience, highly recommended to stay 2 hours at least. Unfortunately Fort Adelaide was closed due to a public holiday as well es the Blue Penny Museum. Our Guide, Hansley brought us to a tea museum which was not on the program and was really interesting.

This tour was OK. I would have liked a slower walk-through umbrella sq and Port Louis so I could take pictures. Markets were interesting. Recommend paying the extra to have a tour guide in the botanical gardens. Lunch was ok. 'Pin Location' means 'address' not that the tour guide used it.

Fantastic day sightseeing, our driver and guide, Vinoo, was very knowledgeable and friendly. He went above and beyond to ensure that we got the most out of the day and couldn’t recommend him highly enough! He showed us around the capital, and allowed us time to do some shopping in the local and craft markets. The views from Fort Adelaide were breathtaking across the capital towards the Indian Ocean. The Botanical Gardens were very pretty with the added bonus of giant tortoises. We also had the lunch option which was delicious.
We didn't do this full day tour but we went to the Botanical Gardens at Pamplemousses on our own. Very disappointing I'm afraid. A general down at heel feel to the place. Plants and trees either not labelled or inadequately. The fine colonial house is closed and there are no proper facilities for visitors. Even the tortoises look depressed and kept in poor conditions compared to the La Vanille reserve in the south of the island.

A morning to see a small part of the island . The Botanical gardens were good to see and worth getting a guide otherwise you would miss too much . We then went onto visit the Port Louis - the fort , local market and waterfront . Our guide was informative and friendly .
